The M290 All-Terrain Vehicle (M290 ATV), commonly known simply as the Mongoose and sometimes dubbed the mothergoose, is the successor model of the M274 Mongoose all-terrain vehicle, manufactured by AMG Transport Dynamics primarily for service within the United Nations Space Command.[1][2]
Design details[edit]
It is larger and has more armor than the older M274, in addition to featuring a rear-facing seat for passengers.[2] Both the civilian and military versions are available with a variety of upgrade packages, including armored body panels, improved suspension systems, and alternate engines. The civilian version is not rated to carry Spartans without risking damage to the frame.[1]
Variants[edit]
M290 Mongoose variants[edit]
- Corp Mongoose - Liang Dortmund's heavy-duty modification of the standard Mongoose that features extra armor.[4]
- Logoless Corp Mongoose - A variant utilized by Liang Dortmund's miners.
- Tundra Mongoose - Mongoose used in freezing environments and features better armor than the Corp variant.[4]
- Urban Mongoose - Rugged utility variant used by UNSC Army scouts and UNSC Air Force security patrols. Features better armor than the Corp variant.[4]
- Woodland Mongoose - Variant used as a light cargo transport in topography that stymies the larger Warthog. Features better armor than the Corp variant.[4]
- ONI Mongoose - ONI variant that features better armor than all other variants. [4]
M290-M Gungoose variants[edit]
- M290-M Gungoose – The result of an M290 Mongoose quad bike fitted with twin grenade launchers.[4]
- Corp Gungoose – An up-armored variant used by Liang Dortmund Corporation security forces to combat insurrectionists that features extra armor.[4]

- Urban Gungoose – A variant used by UNSC Army scouts, UNSC Air Force security patrols, and Spartan recon teams that features better armor than the Corp variant.[4]
- Woodland Gungoose - Variant used by UNSC Army reconnaissance units on remote colonies with no real road systems. Features more armor than the Corp variant.[4]
- ONI Gungoose – A variant used by the Office of Naval Intelligence that features better armor than the Urban variant and grenades with timed fuses that allow them to ricochet.[4]

All variants of the Gungoose in Halo 5: Guardians provide infinite frag grenades for the passenger, allowing them to be used for guarding chokepoints with great efficiency.
Production notes[edit]
The Gungoose was originally called the Wargoose during Halo 5: Guardians' development.[5][4]
