Sentinel Launchers, are small armor-covered devices built into the walls of some Forerunner facilities. They have appeared in Halo 2 and Halo 3. When hostile entities, such as Flood, are detected in the immediate area, they open their cover and dispense Sentinels. When a Sentinel is about to be dispensed, the Launcher will make a noise that increases in pitch until the Sentinel is dispensed.

Overview
Most Sentinels seen being dispensed are the normal silver ones, though a few dispense the gold, shielded Majors. One way to destroy a launcher is to attack it when the armored cover opens to release a Sentinel (an over charged Plasma Pistol shot is a one shot kill and also creates an EMP style effect on nearby shields.) It is also possible to destroy a closed dispenser by sticking a Plasma Grenade on its cover or by hitting it with a melee attack; however, the melee attack will drop your shields, so it's most useful to melee the Launchers when there are no other enemies around.
When hostile entities, such as the Flood, are detected in the immediate area, the sentinel launchers open their covers and dispense Aggressor Sentinels. These launchers can only be found on the level Sacred Icon in Halo 2 and only briefly in the Halo 3 levels The Ark and Halo and are allied with the Player. They can additionally be seen in diagonal rows along the sides of the support beam of Installation 04 (II)'s Control Room. This has confused a lot of Halo 2 players as on the levels The Arbiter and Oracle there are Sentinels but no Sentinel Launchers. Although some Sentinels could have escaped the destruction of the first Halo, few would have been able to. There are an extremely large number of Sentinels on the two levels and too many for the amount that could have escaped Halo's destruction. This would probably mean that they came from a production facility of some sort or are produced on site and are in fact Sentinels that originated from the Gas Mine.

The launchers in Halo 3 release Sentinels at a quicker rate than those in Halo 2. Also, the hatch closes right after the Sentinel is released to prevent weapon fire from getting into the launcher. To get around this, just stick it with a grenade or blow it up with heavier weapon such as a Rocket Launcher.

This article is based on canon information, but the article's title is conjectural and/or uses descriptions as the title, as there is currently no official name for the subject.
An Aggressor Sentinel emerging from a Sentinel launcher.

Sentinel launchers are small armor-covered devices built into the walls of Forerunner facilities. Aggressor Sentinels are sometimes deployed via these devices when reacting to a Flood outbreak or other situation. They can be found in numerous locations, such as the sentinel wall, the control room, Installation 00's cartographer, and the Absolute Record.[1][2][3][4]

Overview[edit]

When hostile entities, such as the Flood, are detected in the immediate area, the sentinel launchers open their covers and dispense Aggressor Sentinels. When releasing an Aggressor, the launcher emits a noise that increases in pitch until the Aggressor appears.[1][2][3]

A sentinel launcher is at its most vulnerable when its armored cover opens to release an Aggressor. It is the most susceptible to overcharged plasma pistol shots, plasma explosions, and even physical attacks. Upon destruction, a sentinel launcher emits an electromagnetic pulse to its surroundings.[1][2][3]

A sentinel launcher, however, is linked to Sentinel Defense Network on Installation 00. When Voridus disabled the Defense Network, the Sentinels cannot launch from it, resulting in the Flood are able to clog many of Launchers due to the network is inoperable. When the Defense Network is reactivated, the Sentinels are once again can be launched to resume their duty.

Gameplay[edit]

In Halo 2, sentinel launchers can only be found in the campaign level Sacred Icon, and consistently release Aggressors to combat Flood combat forms and Thel 'Vadam.[1]

In Halo 3, sentinel launchers can be found in the campaign levels The Ark and Halo. In addition to being allied with John-117, they are also more durable and release Aggressors at a quicker rate than those in Halo 2. In addition, the hatch closes immediately after the Aggressor is released to prevent weapon fire from getting into the launcher, although this can be bypassed by throwing a grenade before it closes.[2][3]

In Halo Wars 2: Awakening The Nightmare, Protector Sentinels and Aggressor Sentinels mainly appear from Sentinel Launchers. They can only be disabled temporarily by Voridus' EMP fields and when operating, they come in an endless wave.

Trivia[edit]

 • With the Rocket Launcher, you can lock onto Sentinel launchers as if they were vehicles.
 • In Sacred Icon, there are many destroyed Sentinel launchers found throughout the level. Despite appearing destroyed, these launchers can be destroyed again(with the armored cover falling out). This is easily seen in the gondola room where, after pressing the holo-panel, all the Sentinel launchers are destroyed, including the ones that are already destroyed.
