The Wuchek-pattern patroller (more commonly known as the Spectre) is a ground vehicle formerly in service with the Covenant.[1]
Overview
Design details
The Wuchek-pattern Spectre is defined from its Wuzum-pattern counterpart by its distinct red outer hull. It incorporates a rapid-fire heavy plasma cannon bespoke-designed by Achoem Weapons as payment for a now-undocumented favour - believed to be either an ancestor or modification of the Mamua'uda-pattern Shade turret.[1]
Development history
The Wuchek design pattern of the Spectre line was designed by the Sangheili transport architect, Dren 'Teconzee, and incorporated a number of heterodox modifications of older Forerunner mechanisms beneath its nanolaminate hull. 'Teconzee's meticulous approach to this custom design saw him modify the vehicle's propulsion systems, navigation controls, power plant and weapons array.[1]
The nature of the bespoke nature of the vehicle, and its usage of ancient Forerunner mechanisms, meant it was never widely manufactured and thus remained a rare sight on the battlefield.[1]
Production notes
- Main article: Cut Halo: Combat Evolved vehicles § Shadow
The Wuchek-pattern Spectre was originally developed as one of a number of vehicles intended for inclusion in Halo: Combat Evolved. The Spectre was originally developed under the name of the "Shadow", though was ultimately cut from the final release even despite appearing in the game's E3 2000 footage.[2]
The Shadow concept was later revived in Halo 2 as the Wuzum-pattern Spectre; renamed due to the Shadow name having been given to the Ruwaa-pattern Shadow. The Wuchek design however would go unnamed until 2022; with the vehicle restored to working condition for inclusion in the Halo Editing Kit as per the efforts of the Digsite project.[3] The vehicle was fully-canonised in a special edition issue of Canon Fodder.[1]
