History

Rise of humanity

Ganymede was one of many bodies of the Solar System settled by humanity during the early half of the 22nd century. This era would see Ganymede become home to a significant Frieden presence, and was one of several sites involved in the Jovian Moons Campaign of the Interplanetary War. By mid-2169, Ganymede (along with many other Jovian Moons) had been invaded by the UNSC Marine Corps, and Frieden forces destroyed.[5]

Human-Covenant War

The EVA-class Mjolnir was first created and tested at the Low/Zero Gravity Testing Facility on Ganymede.[3]

Government and society

Ganymede is famously proud and isolationist, and as such retains troubled relations with its neighbours. The moon is divided into numerous habitat-states including Aigburth - the political chaos of which is regarded as entertaining, if not educational.[1]

Trivia

  • The country Aigburth is a reference to the British TV series Red Dwarf. It is from the name The Aigburth Arms, where the character Lister was found abandoned as a baby. The city Lister is also a reference to the show, Dave Lister being one of the main characters.
  • In the Halo: Reach live-action short Spaceport, Ganymede is a destination listed at the Manassas Spaceport.
