From the Vault is the twelfth track (Disc 2 Track 5) included in Halo: Reach Original Soundtrack.
Overview[edit]
Rather than being a purely original theme, the track is a medley of various musical themes from Halo: Original Soundtrack, Halo 2: Original Soundtrack, and Halo 3: Original Soundtrack, to the same tempo and percussion rhythm.
The piece opens with the opening drumroll from the earlier track Winter Contingency, followed by a low tempo tribal percussion. The pieces or themes featured, in order, are:
- The opening strings of Farthest Outpost (0:26-1:12)
- The choir of Impend (1:12-2:11)
- The choir of The Maw (2:11-2:40)
- The strings of Weight of Failure from Prologue (2:40-3:25)
- The choir of Overcome from Behold a Pale Horse (3:25-4:59)
Appearances[edit]
This track appears in-game in Halo: Reach campaign level The Package, but only within the Tribute Room, playing alongside the Siege of Madrigal. A small section from its opening, however, is played in the mid-level cutscene of the campaign level. Its tribal percussion plays as NOBLE Team look at the Babd Catha Forerunner vessel.
Production notes[edit]
The namesake of the piece is a reference to the unique mixture of tracks that are taken from other soundtrack albums; thus, "from the vault." It may also be a reference to the fact it plays only within the Tribute Room, which is both a "vault" of past Halo/Bungie pieces and the well hidden and safeguarded lab of Dr. Halsey.
