Mexico is a nation that comprises a large portion of the southern United Republic of North America.[2]
History
- Danforth Whitcomb: "You know the story of the Alamo, Chief?"
- John-117: "Yes, sir. A famous siege with a handful of defenders holding off overwhelming forces."
- — Vice Admiral Danforth Whitcomb to the Master Chief as Covenant warships approach Eridanus Secundus.[3]
Mexico was recognized in 1821 as a sovereign state after the Mexican War of Independence. In 1836, during the Texas Revolution, the Battle of the Alamo saw an assault launched on the Alamo mission by Mexican troops. The Mexican-American War, which began ten years later, led to the territorial cession of the extensive northern borderlands, one-third of its territory, to the United States of America. In 1945, Mexico became a founding member of the United Nations.
Eventually, it, along with Canada and the political remnants of the United States of America became part of the loose association known as the United Republic of North America, itself under the direction of the Unified Earth Government along with all other UN states on Earth.[2]
Human-Covenant war
When the Covenant attacked Earth in late 2552, Mexico became a site of conflict during the global battle. That is to say that the Covenant deployed troops just off the coast of the Yucatán Peninsula. These Covenant forces intended to search the seafloor there for unknown reasons, but their operation was stopped by the Spartan-IIs of Blue Team.[4] Base Segundo Terra, was used by Blue Team as a staging point for the launching of their strike against the Covenant in the Pacific Ocean and prior to that, another mission to Antarctica.
Geography
- "Where did you get your license? Mexico City?"
- — A UNSC Marine jokingly pokes fun at Spartan John-117 while he drives an M12 Warthog.
Mexico is situated in the southern half of North America. It is bordered to the north by the political remnants of the United States; to the south and west by the Pacific Ocean and to the east by the Gulf of Mexico. The nation's capital is Mexico City, located near its center. Outside the city lies Base Segundo Terra, a UNSC military installation. In southern Mexico lies the city of Oaxaca. Oaxaca Station, an orbital defense platform, is stationed in geosynchronous orbit high above it.[5] The climate ranges from tropical to temperate.[1]
