::Thing of it. putting a Super MAC on one huge ship may seem like a good idea, in theory. but what's the Covenant's first target going to be? they'd blow it out of space before it could even charge the MAC! which i would imagine would take a while! Frigates are smaller, faster, and cheaper to make, which is why they're still used at all.

:::I agree. Also, it would take years (and dont forget the money) to make just 1 of them as a ship. This would be due to the testing of a Slipspace drive powerfull to push an item, atleast over a mile in diamatre. If my calculations are correct, any slipspace engine able to push a super MAC to FTL, would instantly, or almst instantly be blown into subatomic particles. -- UserForerunner 21:45 19/01/07

i have an idea why dont the humans get a super mac platform add alot of battleplate, archer missles, a couple of nukes,a reactor, and engines and call it a capital ship? think about it it could destroy any covenant ship while still being able to dodge the plasma torpedos, pulse lasers, and energy projectors the covenant ship could throw at it. After all marathon class cruisers are about the same length as a super MAC platform.

::To Ashfire: Your first statement is correct. Your assertion about there being fire in space is also somewhat correct. In certain conditions, an explosion could be seen. This could happen if a round penetrates the hull and causes the ship to vent atmosphere. The escaping gases would linger long enough for a very brief explosion to be seen before dispersing throughout the local space. I'mm not sure about plasma in a MAC round's wake...could be plausible if the fields and air friction combine to superheat and ionize the surrounding air to extreme temperatures. You bring up a good point about vacuums: on Cairo Station when you exit to battle the Elites in jumpjets, there should be absolutely no sound, as the vacuum gives nothing for sound to oscillate off of.

::To the others contributing in this section: the MAC does not use propellant to accelerate the projectile; it uses magnetic fields and coils. See the little video clip at the top of the MAC article. That's the principle at work here. As for energy dissipation, some of it can be dispersed through vents in the gun's path, much the same as gases are dispersed in modern day weapons. However, some energy will inevitably come out of the barrel, and this could produce a flash depending on the chemical structure of what exactly is exiting the barrel. If it's just pure energy (like electricity for example), then it will more than likely remain invisible to the naked eye. A Gauss has a flash because it operates in an atmosphere, thus the chemicals and effects at work in coil/railguns are visible. In space, the 'rippling' effect generated by a Gauss cannon may be be visible, but may not, depending on what exactly generates it. My guess is that the heat and energy generated by firing creates this appearance. As such, it would be visible in space, but the flash more than likely would not. :Actually, it doesn't. The MAC is a simple railgun, using magnetic strips to accelerate a metal projectile. The particles are Magnetically Accelerated, if you turned the L.H.C. into a cannon, it would techniqually be a magnetic acceleration cannon. Dreaddraco2

:As per Specops. Also, the MAC can only go in a straight line, and cannot fire individual particles. The LHC is curved, and does not have an opening at the begining or end, but keeps going round. It also cannot fire anything larger than several particles. General ONI recon 111 - File:General.svg|30px]] 15:27, 15 June 2009 (UTC)
