The Tactical Autonomous Robotic Defense System was an abandoned Acheron Security project. The project was an early attempt by Acheron Security to create autonomous combat drones.[1] TARDS was tested in Industrial Zone 08 of Chicago, on the planet of Earth.[2] However, with the rise of augmentations in human soldiers, the project—and its facility—was deemed irrelevant. Eventually, the facility was used as a War Games simulation.[1]
Trivia
- On the system's remnant parts the player can see "Abandon in Place" written on them, hinting that it was a failed project.
- The acronym TARDS is a possible joke by Bungie, as that it sounds like an abbreviation of "retards", or a reference to the "TARDIS" from Doctor Who.
- TARDS's facility in Chicago may be a reference to the location of U.S. Robotics in the 2004 film I, Robot.
