Zulu Seven Nine,[1] also known as Condor Z79[2] is a U81 Condor attached to the Valiant-class super-heavy cruiser UNSC Victory of Samothrace in late 2559. It was crewed by Victory's best flight team.

Service history[edit]

On November 4, 2559, Gray Team and Captain Abigail Cole deployed in Zulu Seven Nine to Rossbach's World in order to recover the smart AI Black-Box and rescue Admirals Serin Osman and Terrence Hood and Spartan Charles Orzel, using an M15 Razorback that was clamped to the deployment bay for quick transport. Under attack by the Created, Gray Team managed to get back aboard just in time for the Condor to escape to slipspace as a Guardian Custode fired an attenuation pulse.[1] The Condor skipped in and out of slipspace through five different sectors before reaching its rendezvous point with the UNSC Victory of Samothrace at a set of randomly generated coordinates a very far distance away from any known star.[3]

Zulu Seven Nine later deployed Gray Team and Tul 'Juran to Venezia for their mission to capture San'Shyuum High Lord Dovo Nesto. After Nesto fled in a Trespasser, the Condor extracted the strike team and a Sangheili prisoner.[4] Zulu Seven Nine attempted to chase down the Banished sky raider, but was unable to catch up in time, so Cole had the strike team land on Victory. With the help of covering fire from Victory, the strike team made it safely onboard.[5]

On December 14, 2559, Zulu Seven Nine transported Gray Team, Tul 'Juran, Blademaster Vul 'Soran, Stolt, Spartans David McEndon, Stefan Vidalin and Merrick and twelve ODSTs to Boundary, managing to avoid detection by both the massive Banished fleet in orbit and the occupation force on the ground. Anti-aircraft defenses forced the Condor to divert to a flight plan that would have them drop the strike force twelve kilometers outside of the target zone. Jai-006 instead had the Condor drop them in a ravine leading to a large culvert with a straight shot into Tyrrhen. Designating the ODSTs as Zulu Blue, Jai sent them to clear out a section of the artillery so that Zulu Seven Nine could safely exfiltrate them later,[2] something that the ODSTs succeeded in doing despite taking casualties.[6] During the battle, the Condor hid somewhere in the mountains west of Tyrrhen.[7]

On December 15, following Victory's MAC strike, the Condor exfiltrated Gray Team and the surviving ODSTs. As Covenant soldiers surrounded the rubble where Stolt was trapped with McEndon's body, Zulu Seven Nine arrived to help. The Condor's initial salvo killed a third of the Covenant soldiers and the Spartans jumped out to engage the Covenant directly. Joined by 'Juran, the Spartans eliminated the Covenant soldiers, rescued Stolt and recovered McEndon's body. Zulu Seven Nine then headed for Victory's crash site to help the survivors.[6]
