- "Brother 'Crolunee, rejoice, for the green monster is no more, banished by the righteous might of our forces. My Needler has never had truer aim. Each shard unerringly found its mark across the field of battle. Why, even now, the Unggoy make sport with the green abomination's helmet."
- — Ustaf 'Nbekee.
This unidentified operator was a Spartan-II supersoldier in the United Nations Space Command's Naval Special Weapons division. This Spartan was deployed to Harvest during the Harvest campaign, where during an engagement at a Covenant Methane refinery they were killed by Sangheili Ustaf 'Nbekee with a Needler.[1]
Biography[edit]
Conscription[edit]
Around July, 2517, Doctor Catherine Halsey and her team processed the one hundred fifty candidates of the Spartan-II program with this candidate being one of them.[2]
On September 10, 2517, this candidate was selected as part of the final seventy-five candidates for the Spartan-II program, where Doctor Catherine Halsey gave the order to the "Dumb" Artificial intelligence Déjà to give the order round them up. Several retrieval teams proceeded to kidnap and replace the children, including this candidate, with flash clones,[3] with the children placed into cryostatis and rushed straight to the planet Reach.[4]
Training[edit]
Once awoken from cryostasis on Reach at the Reach Naval Officers Academy, shortly before 2300 hours on September 23, this candidate and seventy-four other children were led into an amphitheater through four sets of double doors, each accompanied by a naval drill instructor. With Doctor Catherine Halsey, and Chief Petty Officer Franklin Mendez waiting for them on the stage. Halsey proceeded to tell the Spartans the truth about why they were taken and that they will be busy the following day.[4]
Around 0530 hours on September 24, this candidate and the other candidates were woken and were formally introduced to Chief Petty Officer Mendez and the rest of the instructors. The seventy-five candidates proceeded to go though their first day of training. Mendez and the instructors put the candidates through exercises, eventually taking them for a run around the campus taking them to the entrance of the Naval Academy. At the end of the run the candidates were introduced to the Artificial Intelligence Déjà, who stated she will be the candidates teacher, and began to teach them for the day after they entered the building. Déjà proceeded to teach the candidates about Thermopylae, and the 300 Spartans who battled the Persians at the Battle of Thermopylae. After class, the candidates were taken by Chief Petty Officer Mendez to "the playground", where the play played a game of Ring the Bell with the losing team not getting dinner, where this candidate's team didn't lose the game.[5]
The next day on September 25, the candidates were taught about wolves and how they work together to get their prey from Déjà, when played Ring the Bell in the playground after class.[5] On September 28, 2517; the Spartans were given hair cuts.[6]
During one of the training operations on July 12, 2519, each Spartan trainee was dropped off at a different point in the preserve and was tasked with reaching an extraction point; the last Spartan to reach the point was to be left behind and forced to walk back. After being dropped off, the Spartans regrouped and made their way to the extraction point together. Upon reaching the point, the Spartans encountered a squad of UNSC Marines. When candidate Samuel-034 feigned an injury before the Marines, one of them moved to attack him. However, as part of their plan, the rest of the Spartans attacked the Marine by throwing rocks at him and knocked him unconscious. The Spartans then enacted a similar plan on the rest of the Marines and eventually defeated the entire squad. Afterwards, the Spartans reached a D96-TCE Albatross and, with Déjà's help, commandeered the dropship and left the training preserve.[7]
Around September 27, 2520, Carris-137 accidentally killed one of the candidate handlers, causing the first casualty of the program, as a result all the candidates attended the handlers memorial services, and Doctor Halsey encouraged Déjà to emphasize the history of military training and how accidents happen to the candidates.[8]
On August 22, 2524, the Spartans were rerouted to a Special Forces camp on the other side of reach due to interested parties within the Office of Naval Intelligence.[9]
On March 9, 2525, this candidate and the rest of the Spartan-II candidates underwent their augmentation procedures at Medical Facility Endurance orbiting Reach.[10]
Harvest campaign[edit]
This Spartan was deployed to Harvest during the Harvest campaign. In a ground engagement on February 4, 2531, at a Methane refinery near the relic the Covenant found, this Spartan (with no backup) engaged 25 Covenant soldiers. The Spartan killed seven Covenant soldiers but was quickly killed by the Sangheili Ustaf 'Nbekee with a Needler. As a war prize, the Unggoy under 'Nbekee's command were allowed to play games with the Spartan's helmet.[1]
Identity[edit]
This Spartan's only appearance is in a brief in-game vignette on the now-defunct official Halo Wars viral website, in which their identity and gender go unmentioned.[1]
It is possible that this Spartan is Joseph-122, as only his and Keiichi's status following the Harvest campaign remain unaccounted for: Three Spartans had died by that time (two by suicide[11] and one in combat[12]) while the remaining 28 have been named and are known to have survived the Harvest campaign.
It is unlikely that this Spartan is Keiichi-047 because despite Keiichi's status being MIA, he was seen fighting later on in the same day in a sunny period, while the unidentified Spartan was seen fighting during a dark period when Alpha Base was most likely running.[1]
