The Nuro'k Xur-pattern Warrior Transport[2] (UNSC Type classification: Type-57 Troop Carrier, T-57 TC)[1] is an aircraft in the Spirit family of dropships used by the Sangheili. It is an infantry and logistical dropship and utility craft manufactured by the Merchants of Qikost.[1][2]
Overview[edit]
Design details[edit]
The Nuro'k Xur Spirit is an older design pattern of Sangheili origin, with modern examples incorporating a number of design evolutions iterated upon by the Merchants of Qikost for use in the Blooding Years - the civil war consuming Sanghelios in the wake of the fall of the Covenant empire. The modern upgrades applied to these older craft include a more streamlined profile, upgraded armor, improved in-atmosphere maneuverability, an articulated heavy plasma cannon, and faster troop deployment - with each of the twin troop bays using individually-articulated doors and individual troop compartments. This contrasts with the older Dextro Xur-pattern and Taaku Xur-pattern Spirits, which used a single, large articulating door spanning the length of the entire troop bay.[1][2] The Spirit's gravity hoist has also seen improvements to in-flight stability.[2]
Rumours persist that the Sangheili artisan-armorers responsible for the Nuro'k Xur design accomplished the upgrades with the aid of a secretly-sequestered Huragok.[1]
Operational history[edit]
The Nuro'k Xur-pattern was originally an older design of Sangheili origin,[2] and was brought back into service in the aftermath of the end of the Human-Covenant War as an improvement over the older Dextro Xur-pattern Spirit.[1] These older craft were acquired by any Sangheili faction with the ability or wealth to obtain them,[2] including Jul 'Mdama's Covenant and the Swords of Sanghelios.[3]
Jul's Covenant made extensive use of Nuro'k Xurs during the battles of Kamchatka, Genesis, Nuusra, and Sunaion. Around the same time, they were often used in Warzone simulations aboard the UNSC Infinity.[4]
