Talk:R'sikosh-pattern man o' war
From Halopedia, the Halo wiki
Gallery[edit]
The Gallery displayed an unknown ship as a Sangheili Man O' War. It was one of the 4 covenant ship types in the Opening Cutscene.
Two different big ships[edit]
I'm now definitely sure that there are two distinct ships, though they are quite similar. The first one is the Man O' War (I don't know if it's the exact name), which you can see on this article's page (Example 1 on Kamtchatka, Example 2 near Argent Moon). However, in Sunaion, I can see that there are both the Man O' War and the big ship from the map Truth. You can see a comparison here. The non-Man O' War is the one on the top in the first shot, and the one on the Guardian's left in the second shot. It has a flat "belly" with small lights, while the typical Man O' War has a big "belly" with no light. There are also other small details that are different. Basically, the Man O'War looks a little bit like a Fuel Rod Cannon, while the Truth ship looks more like mix between an assault carrier and an SDV corvette.
At first, I thought they were two different models (good quality and bad quality), but now I'm pretty sure that they are different ships. You can see them better by yourself, if you want to. Go to the end of the level "Battle of Sunaion", where a Grunt is eaten by two Crawlers (before arriving to the Arbiter). Try looking on the right, at the ships in the sky. Both the "Man O' War" and the "ship from Truth" are visible at the same time. Imrane-117 (talk) 07:14, 23 December 2015 (EST)
- Where did this ship designation (Man O' War) come from? I don't think it's correct, but I'm curious where this was sourced. -ScaleMaster117 (talk) 09:28, 23 December 2015 (EST)

- This one to be precise. --NightHammer(talk)(contribs) 12:01, 23 December 2015 (EST)

- I was skeptical about using the designation, because I've found as far as five new Covenant/Sangheili ships in the game. It seems we "guessed" which one was the Man O' War... It may not even be the final designation, similar to how the blockade runner was actually called corvette in the game. Imrane-117 (talk) 12:34, 23 December 2015 (EST)
- OK, I recall that CF. I guess I didn't make the jump on which one to call which. Until it is revealed, I'd recommend caution in these articles. The CF article claims it's "svelte" so I don't know why the biggest and bloated of the new ships was selected for the Halopedia article. -ScaleMaster117 (talk)

- Agreed. I think we assumed that Man O' War referred to the one ship when it was one of the two new Sangheili ships we knew about at the time. --NightHammer(talk)(contribs) 13:12, 23 December 2015 (EST)
- The most svelte one I've seen is in the sky near Sunion when you're on the run. I haven't gotten a great look at it but it reminds me of Spock Prime's ship from the Trek reboot in 2009. -ScaleMaster117 (talk) 14:30, 23 December 2015 (EST)

Ship history[edit]
"The Man O' War is a class of Sangheili warship used prior to the War of Beginnings" I've looked at the citations but neither seem to say that the ship was built before the War of Beginnings. In fact wouldn't that contradict: "Sangheili believe that Forerunner relics are not to be modified in any way and view the San'Shyuum's reverse-engineering of the artifacts as grave blasphemy.[2]"? Any clear up in regards to this would be nice.
Edit: Actually nevermind.. I found it: "Created using Forerunner secrets unlocked before the War of Beginnings, the Man O’ War represents a pinnacle of Sangheili warship design that, in many respects, was never equaled by Covenant patterns. Reticence to share deeper details about the craft and its capabilities remains strong even today." https://www.halowaypoint.com/en-us/news/canon-fodder-holiday-shipping Seems like it's just another one of 343s total disregards to cannon.
