Talk:List of animals
From Halopedia, the Halo wiki
Time to rename[edit]
We need to rename this page "List of non-sapient creatures" or something along those lines. If a living being did is not part of the kingdom Animalia, it is not an animal. This includes a lot of the alien life on this list.TheEld (talk) 16:55, June 21, 2019 (EDT)TheEld
- I don't think this is a necessary change. The vast majority of users aren't gonna go to try and find a list of animals in the halo universe and think "well technically they're not animals they're non-sapient creatures". It's just needless specification that'll hinder the page's visibility IMO.BaconShelf (talk) 17:06, June 21, 2019 (EDT)
- Why not correct a major error, though? "Animals" will still redirect here. It makes the site look very unprofessional as-is. This is the equivalent of including whales on a page about fish. Hell, we even have folasteeds listed here, and those are made of plant analogues lol.TheEld (talk) 17:12, June 21, 2019 (EDT)TheEld
- Becuase the vast, vast, vast majority of people aren't going to care about the distinction between the real world animal kingdom and calling a blind wolf or whatever an animal. I've never met anyone who considers this site unprofessional for not making that distinction lmao. It's for the same reason we don't call the page the Type-26 Assault Gun Carriage or whatever. The wiki isn't exclusively for the people who know every last detail. BaconShelf (talk) 17:16, June 21, 2019 (EDT)

- This isn't an example of one name for something being more common or easier to say. This is just mislabeling. The fish and whales example applies.TheEld (talk) 17:19, June 21, 2019 (EDT)TheEld
- Except this is a case of accessibility. The distinction can for sure be made on the page, sure, but changing the name will just make it harder to find. It's a complete non-issue and just needlessly complicates things. Who actually cares about the scientifically correct distinction for the sake of a list article to point users in the direction of similar creatures? BaconShelf (talk) 17:24, June 21, 2019 (EDT)

- (Indent reset) Well tbh I think a more indepth discussion is needed on the name before we change it.
- However this page and a lot of the animal pages need a overhaul. Which in my opinion can be done first. It would help the case in a rename cause it would be clearer on what we can change the name to. And/or if we should split this page up.-CIA391 (talk) 21:25, June 25, 2019 (EDT)
