Bero 'Kusovai[2][3] was a Sangheili sub-commander within the Special Operations division of the Covenant military. As a blademaster, he was known for his great skill with the energy sword.[1][2]
Biography[edit]
Covenant service[edit]
Enlisting in the Covenant military as was the custom for all male Sangheili, Bero 'Kusovai became a renowned swordsman and earned the title of blademaster, as denoted by the "-ai" suffix in his surname.[1][2][3] He would eventually find a place within the Covenant's Special Operations division, and by 2552 was deployed within the Fleet of Particular Justice. Assigned as sub-commander to Commander Rtas 'Vadumee, the two were known to engage in sparring matches with each other.[1]
Skirmish on Infinite Succor[edit]

While on deployment aboard Seeker of Truth during the Battle of Installation 04, Bero 'Kusovai was tasked with investigating unusual signals from the Mjern-pattern agricultural support ship Infinite Succor. Upon boarding the ship, the special operations strike team found themselves facing down the Flood, which had successfully managed to infect the fauna held within the ship's hunting preserves. The strike team fended off the infected and fought their way through to the ship's bridge, where they found the controls necessary to activate a self-destruct sequence had been disabled by the ship's Legate, the Minister of Etiology. The group then began fighting their way through the Flood to the ship's medical bay to meet up with the Legate and re-enable the self-destruct, with 'Vadumee threatening to kill the San'Shyuum to allow the mission to proceed.[1]

Bero 'Kusovai was eventually infected and the Flood had begun preparing for a slipspace jump out of the system. While 'Vadumee worked to stop this, he was ambushed by the infected 'Kusovai. In the ensuing fight, 'Kusovai severed his commander's two left mandibles with a swipe of an energy sword. However 'Vadumee swiftly ended the fight by bisecting 'Kusovai's body with a cleave of his sword. After this, 'Vadumee changed the ship's course so that it would collide with Soell before escaping in a Phantom.[1]
Skills and abilities[edit]
Bero 'Kusovai was particularly gifted in the use of energy swords and was a practitioner of pzish'zawk,[1] a Sangheili martial art form in which the swordsman wields a pair of swords simultaneously.[4] His skill earned him the prestigious title of blademaster, allowing him to utilize an "-ai" suffix in his surname rather than the "-ee" suffix used by most Sangheili warriors within the Covenant.[2][3] Commander Rtas 'Vadumee believed 'Kusovai to be the most talented swordsman in his unit.[1]

While Bero 'Kusovai held the rank of sub-commander, he wore a dark blueish-black combat harness. He has been observed wielding a pair of Pelosus-pattern energy swords in combat.[1]
