Rossbach's World is an uncharted habitable forest world[1] cut off from all UNSC and UEG networks.[2]
Overview[edit]
Environmental features[edit]
The planet experiences a relatively mild winter season[2] and includes some environmental features noted to be reminiscent of those found on Beta Gabriel.[3] The planet notably features densely-forested mountain ranges with snow and glacier-covered peaks.[1] Melted snow from the mountains form rivers of potable water.[2]
Ecology[edit]
Black-Box's cabin is located in an area surrounded by thousands of acres of untouched evergreen forest in every direction.[3][1] Orange lichen grows on the trees,[3] as well as a species of bio-luminescent fungi which lights up the forests at night.[2]
The planet is home to birds, freshwater fish, an indigenous creature which was hunted by the Bravo-6 survivors for its hide, and an organism which grew antlers, possibly the same creature.[3]
History[edit]
Postwar[edit]
Discovered in 2556 by an automated probe, the planet's finding was intercepted by the AI Black-Box, who kept it hidden away as an emergency safe haven. Using a fabricated "shell personality" named Commander Spartan Rossbach, Black-Box managed to erect a single structure on the planet, an antiquated wooden cabin positioned high on the side of a forested mountain bordering a lake fed by a river of glacial meltwater. The cabin was well stocked with food supplies to last a few years, including a three year stock of alcoholic beverages,[2] but the natural area also provided potable water and a supplemental supply of food through the hunting and fishing of local wildlife.[3] The retreat had limited technology but possessed solar panels to generate energy. According to Black-Box, official accounting ledgers show the cabin was technically constructed on Mars.[2]
In late October of 2558, when the Created unleashed a Forerunner Guardian over the city of Sydney on Earth, Black-Box evacuated Admirals Serin Osman and Terrence Hood as well as Spartan Orzel to Rossbach's World aboard a Prowler.[2] The trio would live on the planet for a year, with Terrence Hood building a lean-to with a makeshift boxing bag near a lake.[3]
In November 2559, a Guardian Custode would arrive at the planet along with SPARTAN-II Gray Team.[3]
