From a cursory examination, Malurok's surface appears inhospitable. Malurok was settled in the early years of the Covenant{{Ref/Book|Id=enc22pg233|Enc22|Page=233}} by [[Sangheili]] [[kaidon]]s and [[Yanme'e]] [[Yanme'e Queen|hive queen]]s.{{Ref/Reuse|wf}} 

Since then, these two groups have managed their own affairs though the empire did make use of the [[Sangheili colonies|colony]]. Many [[cycle]]s prior to [[2531]], a [[Kig-Yar]] [[pirate]] prince named [[Krith]] seized some amount of power on Malurok only to have his reign ended by strike force commanded by [[Ripa 'Moramee]], a native of the planet. Shortly following the defeat of Krith, 'Moramee attempted a coup against his own kaidon in the state of [[Moram]]. He failed to murder the leadership of the [[clan]] and for this he was tried and imprisoned at [[Weeping Shadows of Sorrow]]. He was also due to be executed after one cycle had passed but he was spared this fate by being made an [[Arbiter]].{{Ref/Comic|Id=GEN|[[Halo Wars: Genesis]]}}

===Post-war===
After the Covenant [[Great Schism|tore itself apart]] in late [[2552]], Malurok's governing entities finally were free to be truly independent polities.{{Ref/Reuse|wf}} However, the planet did briefly enter a [[Blooding Years|period of civil conflict]].{{Ref/Reuse|enc22pg233}}

Malurok is governed by independent Sangheili kaidons and Yanme'e hive queens.
