Luro 'Taralumee was a Sangheili Supreme Commander who led the Covenant's Third Fleet of Glorious Consequence during the Human-Covenant War. He sent regular status reports to the Vice Cleric of Zeal.[1][2]
Biography[edit]
Attack on the fleet[edit]
- Main article: Operation: WARM BLANKET
After the Battle of Miridem in 2544, 'Taralumee's fleet captured Dr. Catherine Halsey while she was cryogenically frozen; she was then placed aboard 'Taralumee's flagship, Resplendent Fervor. However, magnetic interference placed in the system prevented them from jumping to slipspace. He realized the UNSC would attempt to rescue her and created decoy beacons from Chershi-pattern antimatter charges aboard his ships. When a team of SPARTANs attacked, he set his trap, detonating one of the charges and killing Solomon-069. When the rest of the Spartans realized where Halsey was, they headed toward 'Taralumee's assault carrier. The Supreme Commander remained confident that the SPARTANs would not make it aboard his ship, arguing with a Sangheili Major, Thel 'Lodamee, who had fought them before and felt that they posed a greater threat than 'Taralumee realized. 'Taralumee held the Major in contempt for not dying with the rest of his battalion in the engagement, saying that 'Lodamee "...lack[ed] the heart to die with honor."[1]
After the SPARTANs boarded the ship and advanced toward Halsey, 'Taralumee ordered that sections of the ship to be detached. However, John-117 nonetheless continued toward Halsey and retrieved her from her cryo-chamber. Soon, his fleet cleared the magnetic interference and began the jump to Slipspace, breaking off the entire lower section of the assault carrier before he left, in an attempt to kill the two humans. One of his bridge officers noted that this action would abandon 'Lodamee and his accompanying forces; however, the Supreme Commander disregarded this, remarking that 'Lodamee was already shamed and could only regain his honor by dying or by becoming an Arbiter. This decision inadvertently saved John-117 and Dr. Halsey, as 'Lodamee had defeated the SPARTAN in an energy sword duel and was about to kill the two humans. By detaching this section of the ship and pulling 'Lodamee out of the fight, 'Taralumee unintentionally allowed the humans to escape. As the ship's gravity lift pulled him away from his prey, 'Lodamee cursed the Supreme Commander.[1] For his failure, Supreme Commander Luro 'Taralumee was most likely punished upon his return to High Charity.[3]
Post-war[edit]
After the end of the Human-Covenant War, 'Taralumee used his previous station within the Covenant in an attempt to consolidate power for unknown reasons. Renouncing the San'Shyuum who betrayed his kind and filling the vacuum in their absence,[4] his zealous devotion to the Great Journey and adherence to Covenant ideals without the Prophets has marked him as dangerous by the UNSC.[4] On November 13, 2559, SPARTAN-G059 was handed a briefing noting a High Value Target (presumably Luro 'Taralumee) previously noted from Operation: WARM BLANKET involved in amassing a fleet including salvaging operations at the remains of Unyielding Hierophant - a Covenant harborage that had been destroyed in the closing weeks of the war. The briefing noted that one of the High Value Target's warlords was conducting the salvage operation, leading to G059's deployment to the site to conduct reconnaissance.[5]
Trivia[edit]
'Taralumee was voiced by Christopher Ayres.[6]
