Overview[edit]

Astronomical features[edit]

Orbital locations[edit]

Environmental features[edit]

KC-59 features large deposits of titanium.[1] Because of this, large strip mining craters were dug into the surface[3] with at least one being 60 km in diameter.[1]

History[edit]

Discovery and colonisation[edit]

KC-59 was one of the earliest worlds catalogued in the Military Survey of Uninhabited Planets, a formal ongoing survey lasting over 300 years - as such, this likely places its discovery date some time in the 22nd-23 centuries. Despite this, the world was not visited until 2501 in a survey mission conducted by the Huygens-class survey ship Jazmin's Lament. The initial scans of the planet indicated cast deposits of titanium, leading to the world being struck from potential colonisation candidacy. In 2502, documents relating to this decision were leaked, causing a short scandal: widespread outrage at being denied access to such a wealth of resources led to non-military manufacturers being forced into unfair trade deals with the Outer Colonies. As such, the Unified Earth Government made concessions to allow civilian industry to exploit KC-59's resources, though the incident was privately cited as part of the effort to pass the UNSC Secrets Act of 2504.[2]

Postwar[edit]

In 2554, an orbital industrial and War Games training station was constructed over KC-59, Perihelion Station.[2] During the Created uprising of 2559, the UNSC Infinity would deploy Blue Team and the ODSTs of Ninth Platoon to KC-59 and Perihelion Station in order to receive third generation MJOLNIR armor and to test the ORCUS exoskeleton respectively. This would take place over at least three days beginning on September 19, 2559. This was done as preparation for Operation: WOLFE. The ODSTs would frequently conduct training drops down to the planet from UNSC Amicable Disagreement.[1]
