Joint Task Force MARIAH

Joint Task Force MARIAH is a military unit within the United Nations Space Command, including assigned Spartan supersoldiers responsible for protecting the Ark portal at Voi, including underground extensions beneath the neighboring city of New Mombasa. After the Covenant invasion of Earth, the East African Protectorate with assistance of the Unified Earth Government and UNSC through Project Rebirth investment sought to rebuild New Mombasa. The UNSC used the reconstruction as cover to perform operations and investigate the Forerunner portal complex, including periodic patrols in sectors of New Mombasa where criminals and malcontents had staging areas. This was especially concerning due to New Mombasa's reconstruction and Forerunner secrets drawing insurrectionist factions, renegade Covenant splinter groups, and Banished-aligned human mercenary groups.
