Halopedia (then Halo Wiki) was originally a part of AgentSeethroo's then clan, the BlackboxRepublic. After seeing the success of the wiki (and the demise of the clan), he decided to create GamerFocus along with the other wikis. Soon after H2wiki posted their ad at Bungie, we changed our name to Halopedia to differenciate between the two, moved to halopedia.org, and posted our own ad a bit later. Also, I'm pretty sure Porplemontage was there from the start; I became a sysop when GamerFocus was created. --Dragonclaws 19:41, 30 August 2006 (UTC)

:Feel free to change whatever needs correcting. I kept the first year of the history rather vague because I didn't join the project until October 2005, so I don't know much of what happened before that. -ED 18:25, 31 August 2006 (UTC)

What happened to Halopedia!? first the account is susspended and now Firefox can't find it! Jako33 6:06pm 18 June 2006 (AWST)

Halopedia was actually mentioned in the July 2008 issue of GamePro in their Halo Wars article; the reference was as follow:
:That site seems to have stopped working. Luckily, you can continue working on this Wikia instead. We have at least 10 servers now, so these issues are far less likely to affect this Halo wiki than the other ones you might find on the Internet. ==Halopedia vs Halo==
*This wikia is nothing comapred to halopedia because almost nobody is helping it grow. It's also kinda funny that evrybody is helping halopedia instead of this halo wikia. -gb2u
:Halopedia is bigger but it's dead, this Halo isn't trying to replace Halopedia just provide resources because Halopedia doesn't have the means to operate.

Migration
::So you guys want to move Halopedia here? We don't have the means to operate. --<span style=" -variant: small-caps;">Steve (talk)</span> 04:07, 23 July 2006 (UTC)
:::Any articles from anywhere are welcomed!  If you want to put in the time with the migration I can give you admin status!Esemono 06:31, 23 July 2006 (UTC)
::::That sounds a great idea. Do you know how to use Special:Export to automatically move the pages over? You can use that as long as the two wikis use the same license (GFDL). If you can convince some people on that wiki to come over and help, it would make the transition much easier. Angela (talk) 12:12, 23 July 2006 (UTC)
:::::Yeah, I would organize the troops and have them move pages. But I was thinking more having this be Halopedia's new home, not just moving articles over. So it would be like the same site at a different location. I know that would benefit this site, too, since Halopedia got really popular with a lot of fans when it was linked from Bungie.net. People know the name and are used to the layout, etc. I guess I would have otherwise requested a wiki here for the site, but there already is a Halo wiki. I hope I'm not asking too much so hopefully we can work something out. --<span style=" -variant: small-caps;">Steve (talk)</span> 19:11, 23 July 2006 (UTC)
::::::Most of the pages are already from Halopedia anyway.  My only conern is that the migration will delete the orginial pages that this site has... but I don't have  a problem with using the halopedia name or anything.  PS you now have admin status. Esemono 22:49, 23 July 2006 (UTC)
::::::: Psst, my username is Porplemontage. But with the pages if the content isn't covered in the Halopedia page being transferred we can always merge content. A think a lot of the transferring will be manual so with the history preserved information won't be lost. And I still need to get AgentSeethroo's input, who I'm trying to contact. --<span style=" -variant: small-caps;">Steve (talk)</span> 01:34, 24 July 2006 (UTC)
:::::::: OK I think you're set up now.  You should rally the troops as you said and start transfering the content.  I have no problems with the Halopedia as it's an established brand. Esemono 05:47, 24 July 2006 (UTC)

Read through the article, and take a wild guess. Then, if you know who made the site, look on their userpage and it might say where they live. That will anseer the question. 118, Knave-busting General

Yo we're still not confirmed. I messaged AgentSeethroo today but I couldn't get a response from him. So don't do anything yet, but I'm wondering, is it possible to have the name of the wiki changed to Halopedia if we are going to do this? --<span style=" -variant: small-caps;">Steve (talk)</span> 05:56, 24 July 2006 (UTC)

Shouldn't the bar of links on the bottom of the wiki be mentioned somewhere? You know, the one that states this:
:No problem. I'll change that now. Angela (talk) 14:57, 24 July 2006 (UTC)
::Is it really neccessay?  I mean it seems like a lot of trouble.  The corner image will say Halopedia.  People will think this is Halopedia.  Look at Wookiepedia their name isn't Wookiepedia its the stars.wikia.com... Esemono 00:45, 25 July 2006 (UTC)
:::We were talking about changing the wiki name from "Halo Wiki" to "Halopedia". I don't have a problem with the subdomain. --<span style=" -variant: small-caps;">Steve (talk)</span> 01:00, 25 July 2006 (UTC)
::::It's only the "title" that changes, not the subdomain. That will stay at halo.wikia.com since it's much easier to type than halopedia.wikia.com and is a place people are more likely to look if they're search for a wiki on halo. Angela (talk) 08:31, 25 July 2006 (UTC)

Donkey Kong Wiki | Halopedia | Kingdom Hearts Wiki | Pikipedia | SmashWiki | Super Mario Wiki
I dont see the big deal and Angela is right it's only the title that changes, nothing more. Plus the Wiki is extremly large and it is very helpful.

And shouldn't the wiki's alliance with the NIWA and HaloRing be mentioned as well in the current section? Just wondering. ~Jman98~ 11:18, 22 March 2012 (EDT)
Talk with Angela
:HaloRing is mentioned on Project:Community. Also, we are not affiliated with NIWA, NIWA is for wikis that revolve around Nintendo games. The bar on the bottom is an advertisement about other wikis that our host, Steve hosts.-- 13:08 22 March 2012 (EST)

:Well, not much is known actually about HaloRing; we simply now that it's a hub that connects every Halo site (official or otherwise). As for NIWA, we are affiliated to them; we support their goals and principles, essentially the need to promote wiki-independence and to cut off corporate greediness (such example being Wikia and their lack of care for the wiki community, though things have change to an extent since the migration). — <span style="font-size:16px; font-family:OrbitronMedium;"><span style="color:#FF4F00;">subtank</span></span> 15:18, 22 March 2012 (EDT)
I've been reading the forums about the original halopedia being down. To address some of the concerns there:
# This wiki is free and always will be - both in terms of money and freedom (the content is under a free license and everyone is welcome to edit it). There will never be a need to donate money towards it. There is no limitation on space or bandwidth so you will never need to move the wiki again.
# All of the admins on the old wiki are very welcome to be admins here. Steve is a bureaucrat so he can make those people admins using Special:Makesysop.
# Although this wiki is small at the moment, it will grow very quickly if you move your old pages over here. Wikia can promote the site for free on almost 2000 other wikis if you want to attract more users. Angela (talk) 15:11, 24 July 2006 (UTC)

Previous link
Number of Pages
Halopedia's previous link was halo.wiki.gallery. I found that out by an old link, and the fact that it redirects to Halopedia.org. This should be added in (the date that the URL changed)EthanGaming117
On Halopedia they state that there are 955 unique pages.  There is only NUMBEROFARTICLES on this site.  Yet looking at the categories for both pages there seems to be an equal number of pages.  In fact there are more pages with categories here than there are at Halopedia.

:That is the "Gallery/File/so on" link. It is to assist images/files loading and all that, more a behind the scenes change to stop issues and fix the few that exist. (Also please remember to add signatures)-CIA391 (talk) 05:03, August 23, 2021 (EDT)
Is there really 400 more pages on the old.Halopedia that are without Categories? or are they counting things like images too?  I think the later is probably correct.

If you randomly go through the pages there should be plenty of <font color=red>RED links</font> as there are 400 missing pages but that isn't the case.  There are almost no <font color=red>RED links</font> which again points to a false number of pages at old.Halopedia.

Do the old admins have any input?Esemono 03:43, 27 July 2006 (UTC)
:Check these vs. these and go through them and make sure all the content is there. --<span style=" -variant: small-caps;">Steve (talk)</span> 03:10, 27 July 2006 (UTC)
::I've also noticed that people are migrating over different versions of the same article, do you think there are alot of duplicate pages at the old.halopedia? Esemono 03:43, 27 July 2006 (UTC)
:Dunno. --<span style=" -variant: small-caps;">Steve (talk)</span> 03:48, 27 July 2006 (UTC)
:::I don't believe there are very many (if any) duplicates, and I have wondered about the article counter's accuracy. Maybe it's counting redirects? --Dragonclaws 06:48, 27 July 2006 (UTC)
Dragonclaws is right. I counted at least 312 redirect pages in the list of articles from the old halopedia. A number of others weren't useful anyway and I don't think they were transferred. -ED 01:58, 30 July 2006 (UTC)

Another thing I releasized is that the counter is counting User pages as content. This could also explain the high page count of old.halopedia.-- Esemono 04:02, 2 August 2006 (UTC)

::It's still up?  My browser, Firefox, can't find the page.  I thought you took it down. -- John117 15:08, 21 August 2006 (UTC)
:::Damn, I didn't even notice that. I don't own the domain, AgentSeethroo does, and he must have cancelled it or something. --<span style=" -variant: small-caps;">Steve (talk)</span> 17:58, 21 August 2006 (UTC)
:I think everything has been transfered, I occanally see an image that didn't make the jump but you can usually find it somewhere else. --John117 15:08, 21 August 2006 (UTC)
