G 617 g[Note 1] is the seventh planet in the G 617 system, which is situated within the Milky Way's galactic halo. The planet witnessed the initial return of the Flood to the galaxy around 97,745 BCE.[1]
Description[edit]
Prior to the Forerunner-Flood War, G 617 g was capable of supporting life, although lacked any indigenous sapient species.[1] By the time the world became known to the Forerunners, however, much of the local ecosystem had been devastated by the resurgent Flood.
History[edit]
Around 97,745 BCE, the Flood made landfall on G 617 g, marking its first appearance since the Plague War roughly 8,700 years earlier. In its wake, a considerable portion of the planet became barren as it was devoured. When this habitable world was then discovered by the Forerunners, the Primary Pioneer Group made landfall and subsequently disappeared. After having failed to submit a follow-up report for about a week, Advance Survey Team - Alpha was dispatched to investigate. When it, too, subsequently went missing for about two weeks, a medium-strength military detachment was deployed.[1] All of these expeditions granted the Flood a foothold to expand further. Thus began the Forerunner-Flood War, which lasted three centuries and ended with the activation of the Halo Array.

- The designation of the system given by the terminal is a reference to Genesis 6:17, wherein God warns Noah that he's about to unleash a devastating flood upon the world.
- The designation is of human origin,[1] implying that the moon had already been observed and catalogued by humanity prior to the Battle of Installation 00.
