The energy garrote is an energy weapon used by Special Operations Officers of the Covenant.[1][2][3]

Energy garrotes take the form of a small cylinder that splits apart down the middle into two pieces, with a bright-green plasma arc emitted to connect them. The energy beam is not powerful enough to cut through flesh, but does burn through the target's neck while it chokes them - allowing for silent kills in a matter of seconds.[1][2][3]
Operational history[edit]
An energy garrote was used during the opening stages of the Battle of Alpha Base by Zuka 'Zamamee to kill Rick Hale, the pilot of a D77-TC Pelican dropship. 'Zamamee took control of the craft and landed it and its complement of Special Operations Sangheili at the the base on Installation 04, kickstarting the Covenant attack.[4]
