Djamonkin Crater

Djamonkin Crater, known to locals as Djamonkin Augh, (meaning "Big Man's Water"), was the human name for a location on Earth during the Forerunner-Flood war, believed to be the site of former Precursor activity.

Description

The crater was flooded, with a small island in the center. In the center of the island was a small mountain. The waters surrounding the island were populated by merse, which were likely transplanted there from their homeworld by the Librarian. The island itself was uninhabited, but in the center was located a Forerunner Cryptum belonging to the Didact. The Cryptum had been moved there by the Librarian as part of her elaborate plan to reunite with her husband. The Librarian also hid a design seed for a ship in the crater's central peak; this ship was later used by the Didact to escape. The artifact site was surrounded by a baffler and a wide variety of traps, probably to discourage curious humans.

History

Riser's family's geas, imposed by the Librarian as part of her plan, made them spend many generations trying to penetrate the traps and reach the area inside. Several years before the Halos were fired, the crater was visited by Bornstellar Makes Eternal Lasting, along with Chakas and Riser. With their help, he breached the baffler and found the Didact's Cryptum within.

The Librarian recreated the crater as part of Bastion, a shield world built to resemble Earth and her secret laboratory. In late 2558, 343 Guilty Spark, who had been Chakas before becoming a Monitor, visited Bastion's version of the crater as he processed everything that had happened to him and his new duties as Bastion's caretaker.
