| On September 19, after the ''Pillar of Autumn'' left slipspace, the Covenant intercepted and boarded the ship, starting the [[Battle over Installation 04]]. The ship's ODST contingent were assigned to defend the ship's experimental powerplant from the invaders, Dawkins alongside [[Al-Thani]], and [[Suzuki]] were killed during the skirmishes on the ship,{{Ref/Reuse|HTFC1}} being the only members of B Company to die onboard the ship during the battle.{{Ref/Novel|Id=HTFC2|TF|Chapter=2}} When the platoon's medic [[Valdez]] was looking over McKay's injuries, he tried to use humor to get her mind off Dawkins and the others' deaths.{{Ref/Reuse|HTFC1}}
