Janissary[1]

Callie Calder,[1] or simply CC,[2] is a janissary working under the Venezian power broker M'raad.[1]

Biography[edit]

Callie was born around 2544, and lived most of her live on a farm just outside of New Tyne, Venezia. On September 22, 2559, at the age of 15, she was abducted by the Venezian Militia and brought into the service of M'raad; this was done due to her parents' ability to repay a debt that they owed to M'raad. As such, she was inducted into the fledgling janissary program, intended to create child supersoldiers similar to the Spartans of the United Nations Space Command. The janissaries would deploy on operations to repay the debts that their parents owed, eventually buying their freedom or dying in the process.[1] The janissaries were provided their training and equipment, though were able to purchase new equipment (such as better weaponry), albeit at the cost of increasing their owed debt.[2]

In April 2560, Callie and a fellow janissary, Marley, were hired to a Jiralhanae Chieftain working for the Banished. Their services were enlisted to protect a mining site on Oth Kattral, which had recently become a target for raiding attacks. On April 26, Callie was set up in an overwatch position overlooking the facility when her and Marley fended off an enemy scouting party. After Marley shot down a dropship with a Fuel Rod SPNKr, Callie expressed her preference for the Covenant's older Zasqi-pattern fuel rod gun and noted that Marley could invest in more equipment — feeling that the increased debt was worth the added chance of staying alive.[2]

Personality and traits[edit]

Prior to her conscription into the janissary program, Callie was a fan of the band Errant Vee. At the time of her abduction she was listening to the album Amorphous.[1]
