| ===Covenant service===
| |
| Enlisting in the Covenant military as was the custom for all male Sangheili, Bero 'Kusovai became a renowned swordsman and earned the title of blademaster, as denoted by the "-ai" suffix in his surname. He would eventually find a place within the Covenant's Special Operations division, and by 2552 was deployed within the Fleet of Particular Justice. | ===Skirmish on Infinite Succor=== | | ==Summary== |
| Skirmish on Infinite Succor
| | Kusovai is first seen in a practice duel with Rtas 'Vadumee. Later, he is with the group that boards the Infinite Succor and realizes that something is amiss. When they head into a hunting preserve, Flood-infected animals then begin attacking the group. The group fights its way through to the ship's bridge, where they find the controls have been disabled. |
| While on deployment aboard Seeker of Truth during the Battle of Installation 04, Bero 'Kusovai was tasked with investigating unusual signals from the Mjern Infinite Succor. Upon boarding the ship, the special operations strike team found themselves facing down the Flood, which had successfully managed to infect the fauna held within the ship's hunting preserves. The strike team fended off the infected and fought their way through to the ship's bridge, where they found the controls necessary to activate a self-destruct sequence had been disabled by the ship's Legate, the Minister of Etiology. The group then began fighting their way through the Flood to the ship's medical bay to meet up with the Legate and re-enable the self-destruct, with 'Vadumee threatening to kill the San'Shyuum to allow the mission to proceed.

| You will... be with us.
| | Kusovai is eventually infected by the Flood and fights the uninfected Rtas 'Vadumee. The Flood are almost able to Slipspace jump out of the system, but not before Rtas 'Vadumee changes the course to the sun. It was here that Rtas 'Vadumee, while fighting an infected Kusovai, is injured as an Energy Sword cuts off his left mandibles. Rtas 'Vadumee defeats Kusovai and manages to escape two minutes before the Slipspace Jump occurred. Rtas 'Vadumee is believed to be the only survivor of the Infinite Succor mission, as all members of Rtas' team and the original crew of the craft, as well as the Legate on board, were presumably killed and absorbed by the Flood. If not, they were killed when the ship jumped into the system's sun. |
| Bero 'Kusovai was eventually infected and the Flood had begun preparing for a slipspace jump out of the system. While 'Vadumee worked to stop this, he was ambushed by the infected 'Kusovai. In the ensuing fight, 'Kusovai severed his commander's two left mandibles with a swipe of an energy sword. However 'Vadumee swiftly ended the fight by bisecting 'Kusovai's body with a cleave of his sword. After this, 'Vadumee changed the ship's course so that it would collide with Soell before escaping in a Phantom.

| ==Skills and abilities==
| | |
| Bero 'Kusovai was particularly gifted in the use of energy swords and was a practitioner of pzish'zawk, a Sangheili martial art form in which the swordsman wields a pair of swords simultaneously. His skill earned him the prestigious title of blademaster, allowing him to utilize an "-ai" suffix in his surname rather than the "-ee" suffix used by most Sangheili warriors within the Covenant. Commander Rtas 'Vadumee believed 'Kusovai to be the most talented swordsman in his unit.

| ==Equipment== | | ==Rank== |
|
| | His true rank is unknown, although in the graphic novel, his armor color is shown in blueish-green, alongside Rtas 'Vadum. It is certain that he must have been lower ranked than Rtas 'Vadumee, but higher than normal Special Operations Elites. Most believable is that he was Special Operations Officer (also called Spec Ops Major), as with Zuka 'Zamamee, but he could even be an Ultra Elite with the role as Sub-Commander. |
| While Bero 'Kusovai held the rank of sub-commander, he wore a dark blueish-black combat harness. He has been observed wielding a pair of Pelosuss in combat.

| | Kusovai's naming structure is odd, as he has neither the apostrophe before the last name nor the "-ee" suffix common to military Elites. However, given his mastery of the energy sword, it seems foolish to conclude that he is a civilian. More likely, it is an oversight, error, or piece of artistic license on the author's part. |

| ==List of appearances==
| | However, the suffix "-ee" has never been featured being added to the first name. Kusovai's last name was never mentioned, but it is possible that Kusovai was his first name, or a nickname, thus explaining the lack of an "-ee" suffix in his name. |
| *Halo Graphic Novel
| | |
| **The Last Voyage of the Infinite Succor
| | Another explanation is that Elites never put "-ee" after a vowel, only after consonants. Many Elites whose last name finishes in vowel don't have "-ee"(Toha 'Sumai). The reason for this is probably for the purposes of pronunciation and aesthetics, since "Kusovaiee" neither looks good nor sounds good. Three Elites, however, featured in Ghosts of Onyx, do have the suffix after a vowel. |
| *Halo: Shadow of Intent Im
| | These are Zasses 'Jeqkogoee, Uruo 'Losonaee and Y'gar 'Pewtrunoee. |
| | |
| | It is also possible that the -ai at the end of his name is in fact his suffix, perhaps to designate his swordsmanship skill. If this is true, it is a title apparently shared by Toha 'Sumai, another Elite master swordsman. |
