:The top-right corner has that green patch because it was originally wider, extending to the left side of the page and there was a third tab ("more wikis"). You can try disabling the background property in Firebug for the #wiki-login element and see what it looks like — as you can see, it the profile/log out (for registered users) or log in/sign up (for anonymous users) tabs have a background, they're not transparent.
