CQC variant.

The MJOLNIR Powered Assault Armor/CQC variant, also known as the Close Quarters Combat armor, is a variant of the MJOLNIR Powered Assault Armor, designed for combat conditions in close quarters. The variant is compatible with the Mark IV as well as the Mark V.

Overview

Development history

When evaluating different opportunities to improve MJOLNIR across an assortment of engagement types, Mobile Armament Systems proposed two distinctive variants for MJOLNIR the first was CQC[1] and the successor CQB. Using data gathered from the UNSC's campaign on Jericho VII in 2535.[1][2] The data collected from the heavy Spartan ground deployment on the colony world led to the development of CQC with their central focus being the improvement of survivability in close quarter engagements.[1]

After years of research and development, by the early 2540's facilities in Essen and Seongnam began manufacturing and testing the CQC variant for eventual deployment in the field.[3] After years of successful testing and interest, the CQC went operational in 2548[3][4] for the MJOLNIR Mark IV and saw use among SPARTAN-II and SPARTAN-III soldiers.[1][3] Due to its popularity the CQC variant was upgraded for use with the MJOLNIR Mark V when it was activated in 2551.[3]

Design

the CQC variant of MJOLNIR armor was the first of its kind[5] to aid and improve the Spartans effectiveness in close quarters. The armor is designed for tactical, short range combat in urban areas, as such the CQC variant offers the benefits of improved field of visibility and heavy ballistic protection.[3] In addition the helmet supports open-port conversion on many part of the helmet, this allows the user to add any type of compatible module to the helmet to improve functionality, allowing a Spartan to adapt to a mission on the fly.[3] The CQC's heavy pauldrons allow a soldier to swiftly and lethally close the gap between an enemy combatant despite being under fire.[3] Operational uses for the CQC not only apply to Military Operations on Urban Terrain or MOUT, but for boarding operations in ships which are comprised of tight closed spaces.[3]

Despite being surpassed by the CQB in overall integration, the CQC variant still retained popularity well after its production ceased.[5] Many still prefer CQC's less traditional open port conversion system to allow ad hoc modification.[3] This modification versatility opted some Spartans to continue using CQC even in light of CQB's upgrades because of the on the fly upgrades the CQC provides.[1][3]

Helmet Characteristics

Unlock: Halo: Reach Starter.
Similar to the CQB in Halo 3 the CQC helmet is unlocked by default in the armory, the helmet's design bares similar resemblance to the Mark VI helmet and the limited production helmet on the Mark IV. Two attachments are available for the helmet the first adds a Chemical, Biological, Radiological, and Nuclear Module (CBRN) for operations in hazard zones. The module requires the rank of Sergeant and costs 750 cR. The second adds an Up-Armor plate with a Hardened Uplink Module on the right side (UA/HUL) and servers as a up-armored variant of the helmet with hardened uplink module for MILINT acquisition. It requires the rank of Sergeant and costs 1,500 cR

Shoulder Characteristics

Price: 20,000 cR
The CQC pauldrons are rectangular and flat in shape, and have two smaller "squares" on the top and bottom. These shoulders go down to about the elbow. They can be seen at the rank of Major, but require the rank of Lt. Colonel to be bought, they cost 20,000 cR each.
