Legion of Honor

The Red Legion of Honor, sometimes referred to simply as the UNSC Legion of Honor, is an accolade awarded solely to UNSC soldiers for selfless acts of heroism in combat. The recipient must involve acts where he or she chooses to put his or her life on the line in order to save his or her comrades. The medal is usually awarded in a ceremony. It is one of the highest honors a UNSC Marine/crewman can earn.

John-117 earned this award by diving into a bunker full of Covenant, single-handedly defeated them, and ultimately saving a platoon of Marines from a Shade prior to 2552.
