The Ranking System in Halo: Reach is based on Credits (cR) earned through Forge, Multiplayer, Campaign, and Firefight matches. Credits are earned after every game, and you earn extra Credits for medals earned during the match, (e.g. Double Kills) victory bonuses, Commendations, and Daily/Weekly challenges. [1]

Credits earned towards your rank and can be used to purchase various armor permutations from The Armory. When ranking up, you will be able to see items that you can't yet purchase, these are pieces you can purchase in a few ranks. Note that Credits spent on armory purchases do not decrease your rank.

Offline, the easiest ways to earn Credits are to either play Custom Games or, even easier, use Forge mode. However, after an account has been connected to Xbox LIVE, all modes are significantly lower than those awarded for playing multiplayer via Xbox Live or Campaign. It should be noted that when an account is not immediately connected LIVE, but it is instead played offline and has earned ranks offline, the account will lose both several ranks and a large amount of credits when it is connected for the first time.

Trivia

  • The ranks after Lt. Colonel Grade 3 were subject to a cap from the launch of Halo Reach. It was revealed that to unlock this cap the community had to reach a total of 117 million Daily and Weekly challenges completed. The credit and rank cap was unlocked on the 2nd of November 2010[2]
  • If one managed to hit the Credit Cap every day since the game's release, it would take until approximately August 2011 to reach the Inheritor Rank without cheating.
  • To view any of the first 22 rank symbols go to [1] and replace the number at the end of the URL with any number between 0-22 to see different ranks.
  • To view all of the ranks currently achieved by the community, go to [2].
  • There are a total of 49 ranks, another 7 reference. (7x7=49)
  • Halo: Reach ranks actually start from Human ranks, then a Covenant rank, then to Forerunner ranks.
  • Currently, the highest achieved rank globally is General Grade 4 (according to HaloCharts)[3].
