Moonbase Alpha, also known as Spacecamp is the codename for one of the Halo 3 Downloadable Content multiplayer maps [1]. It has been described that its fairly large, and is best suited for games such as Capture The Flag and Assault. It has also been stated that it has some unique characteristics that make Slayer interesting and Infection terrifying. Also some Bungie employees are saying its one of the most prettiest maps ever created. It was the first DLC Map to be announced, with the other being Jodrell Bank.In one of the Bungie Weekly Updates it said that fans of Elongation would enjoy the map[2]. This does not mean it is a remake or a spiritual successor, but could relate to the fact Elongation is on a space station.
Trivia
- The name Moonbase Alpha may or may not be a reference to a line said by a character in the Austin Powers movie franchise or from the TV show Spaced.
- It may also be a reference to the moon base featured in Space: 1999 a short-lived (1975-77) science fiction series created by Gerry Anderson for ITC Entertainment. Starring Martin Landau and Barbara Bain, the series concerned the adventures of the occupants of Moonbase Alpha after the moon was blasted out of Earth orbit due to a nuclear explosion. The explosion was caused by an accident involving nuclear waste storage on the moon.
- Bungie mentioned that a memorial dedicated to the inventors of the Shaw-Fujikawa Translight Engine can be found somewhere on the map.
