Rat's Nest[1] is the name of a map that was announced in the Bungie Weekly Update on October 12, 2007.[2] It was made available for download on Xbox Live Marketplace on December 11, 2007.
It is said it will be the scariest map of all time. Dark, frightening and surprisingly enormous. It will include vehicles (a Mongoose was mentioned in the update on 10-12-07) but Bungie has also said that it will not 'need' them, possibly hinting at the small and claustrophobic environs or teleporters. Fans have stated that it isn't, in fact, very scary at all. This may have been a mix-up with another upcoming map. It is made similarly to Crows Nest, with internal vehicle accesible roads, tight corridors, walkways suspended above areas and vents. Bungie stated in an update that the level will include actual rats. Also it appears in the distance Pelicans and possibly Hornets pass by.
On November 19, 2007, Microsoft released information regarding the first Halo 3 Heroic Map Pack. [3] The new name for this map will be "Rat's Nest," based on the Crow's Nest level from campaign mode. The map pack retails for 800 Microsoft Points ($10 USD), and was released on December 11, 2007.
Description
This map is, essentially, a big race track. The map is obviously vehicle-based, just like Sandtrap. It has two Warthogs parked outside of both bases, and a small room connecting each base. On the edge of the road, there is a small outdoor road with a Ghost parked near it. The outdoor road is mainly used for camping with Rocket Launchers. Mongooses are found scattered around the map, as well as many weapons, grenades, and powerups. Because the outside of the map is very large, it suits racing and several Forge maps have already been built utilising the new Shield Door Forge items and Man Cannons to stop vehicles going outside the track and fusion coils can be shot off the Man Cannons and onto the track where they wreak havoc.
