Template:Ratings Template:Rank Infobox Private is the lowest enlisted rank of the UNSC Marine Corps and UNSC Army, and is equal in rank to Crewman Recruit in the UNSC Navy. For most recruits into the Marine Corps and Army, upon completing basic training they become a Private, and are further assigned to a specific unit or platoon.

In the present-day U.S. Army, there are two paygrades in the Private rank, PVT and PV2. PVT is a non-insignia rank, meaning that privates (PVT) wear nothing to indicate their rank. This rank is typically held for a period of six months or less after completing basic training, whereupon the soldier is promoted to Private(PV2), a rank indicated by a single chevron. The next rank up is Private First Class (PFC).

In the present-day U.S. Marine Corps, there is only one paygrade in the Private rank, PVT. It is also a non-insignia rank, and similarly to the Army, a private in the USMC is quickly promoted unless hampered by disciplinary or other reasons. The next rank up is also PFC like the Army.
