Halopedia talk:Halopedian of the Month/07 2010
From Halopedia, the Halo wiki
Before You Vote
- Only votes from users who have accounts on Halopedia and whose vote are cast while being logged in will count. The account must have been created at least one month before the vote and have at least 50 article edits.
- For example, if one is voting for HOTM for the month of October then the user must have created their account in July or before July.
- Votes will be counted for next month. Please vote on the section for next month, because only the votes in that section will be counted.
- You can vote one time only. If you wish to change your vote, cross out (but do not remove) any previous votes you have made.
- Please bold your nomination so it is easier to see.
- In the event of a tie the results from the edit count page will be used as a tie breaker.
- You must put your vote with your signature in the voting area. In the end votes with signatures are the only ones that will be counted.

- Fluffy - Great contributions since 2009. - 5əb'7aŋk(7alk) 18:07, June 1, 2010 (UTC)
- Jack Phoenix - Jack has done a lot of good work for this wiki the past few months, most of which might have been unnoticed by most users. I feel his hard work deserves a reward. --Jedimca0(Do or Do Not, There is No Try) 19:27, June 1, 2010 (UTC)

- Jack Phoenix - Can't think of a more deserving user for Halopedian of the Month. Should be an administrator. Roy Mustang's mini-skirt 22:08, June 1, 2010 (UTC)
- Fluffy- Me! There's always something sad about voting for yourself, but I can't help it. I really love Halo and contributing to the Halopedia, and have been trying to edit every day I can. Even though it must be a pain to write out my full name, I was still voted for. Becoming the Halopedian of the Month means a lot to me... I would love to give a premature "thank you- you are awesome!" to all of the people who will vote for me. Everyone on the Halopedia is awesome, but you guys are the best... By my view, of course. Anyway, yeah, thanks! Keep being awesome, and I hope I win! --Fluffball Gato 22:31, June 1, 2010 (UTC)
Fluffy- I vote Fluffball Gato because he helped me when I first Registered on Halopedia and probobly saved me from a block. User:Bustie24 00:02, June 2, 2010 (UTC)

- Cally99117 - Well because I have looked through most of the contributions of many others and did not find very many major contributions (as in like not really contributing alot to this wiki) but because I have been working hard on adding sources from the Halo Encyclopedia I think I might deserve HotM until I see someone else making major contributions (no offence). I don't know who to vote for because when Jugus started to clean up the wanted pages list by removing red links which made me want to nominate for this month him but he went a bit inactive (not inactive alot but he just did not make very many edits after a while) but General5 7 started to contribute greatly to Halo 2 Vista Achievements which made me want to nominate her for this month but after that was done she started to make not very many contributions recently and those two nominated above I haven't seen many major contributions from them recently (no offence) so I am going to wait until I find someone making major contributions before I nominate someone. - I'm sorry- I don't mean to sound suspicious, (being that he is the only other nominee at the time) but have you noticed that two of the three current voters for Jack Phoenix just barely fit the requirements? (Not SpartanSniper, the other two) I mean, they were both made rather recently and have just over 50 edits? The vast majority of users that new don't know about the HOTM, I know I didn't... Even stranger, both of them voted the first day of the voting. I'm not trying to jump to conclusions, and I'm not necessarily saying they're "fake" accounts, but you cannot deny that this is highly unusual... Especially as Jack Phoenix hasn't made an edit for a month (and even then, only to his userpage), and they shouldn't know him very well. I don't think that their votes should be nullified or anything, but could an administrator make an IP analysis? Again- I hate to say this to my own competitor, but I hate cheating. I need to say this one more time: I just find the situation extremely unlikely, I am not trying to get him in trouble because he is running against me! In fact, that could even make me not want to point this out, as it makes me look bad! I just want to check it out. NEW INFO: both of those users have their previous edits on April 5th, and after two months of no edits, they both vote for him on the same day. Now, this is getting ridiculous. Now I admit, I am becoming extremely suspicious. The chances of them not being fraud accounts is unlikely. Sorry.--Fluffball Gato 22:41, June 1, 2010 (UTC)
- It would be highly unlikely... visit the Irk sometime and say hi to ashley. :) - 5əb'7aŋk(7alk) 23:12, June 1, 2010 (UTC)
- Or have our IP's checked... you'll find me and Jack are about a thousand kilometers apart and in different countries. I myself have been active on wikia since 2007 and am an admin on several wikis. I noticed Jack's edits here a while back and helped him out a bit, I then figured you guys would see his good work and nominate him. When it became clear to me that his contributions had most likely gone unnoticed I decided to nominate him myself. Jack did some really good work around here and I just felt he deserved a reward for that. --Jedimca0(Do or Do Not, There is No Try) 23:39, June 1, 2010 (UTC)
- I might just be being paranoid, but honestly, both you and that other guy who voted for him stopped editing on exactly the same day. Both of you had accounts made around the same time, and barely hit the requirements. I have no idea how you know what country he lives in, but I'll believe you until further evidence is acquired. He stopped editing in April, so you wouldn't have known him for long. --Fluffball Gato 00:54, June 2, 2010 (UTC)
- C'mon man, let it go, it is pretty suspicious, I agree, but people are going to look at you and think you are trying to get rid of competition. I don't, but thats what i'm seeing in the above comment.Sergeant JimMy 03:19, June 2, 2010 (UTC)
- I am a bit suspicious but they do have the requirements so I am leaving them be but as I said above I didn't see many major contributions by some of the nominated above (no offence) so I am going to wait a while. File:Captain Grade One.png Cally99117 08:02, June 2, 2010 (UTC)
I don't think Ashley deserves the July HotM either way because he has not edited since April. I am completely against his nomination. - JEA13 [iTalk] 08:36, June 2, 2010 (UTC)
Firstly, let me say that I'm very honored that Jedimca0 chose to nominate me. He could've voted for the (at the time, only) other candidate instead.
Now then...
- I mean, they were both made rather recently
[citation needed]. Or what is your explanation to this edit on Darthipedia, which Jedimca0 made on 11 August 2007, almost three years ago?
- The vast majority of users that new don't know about the HOTM, I know I didn't...
Assume good faith, even though this isn't Wikipedia. Just because you didn't know about HotM doesn't mean that nobody else knows about it.
- Especially as Jack Phoenix hasn't made an edit for a month
I admit that I've been busy outside Halopedia, sorry.
- and they shouldn't know him very well
Both Jedimca0 and I are administrators on Darthipedia, the Star Wars Humor Wiki. I don't know who the other voter is, but I appreciate their support; it means a lot to me when even newer users trust in me.
- could an administrator make an IP analysis?
No, for the simple reason that only Wikia staff are able to perform CheckUser checks.
- The chances of them not being fraud accounts is unlikely.
Vladimir Putin is wearing a bear. Your argument is invalid. No, seriously though, I lol'd at this comment. Just because you don't know someone doesn't mean that they're my sock, even though they happened to vote for me. According to Nic, I have a rather large fanbase...which, to an extent, seems to be somewhat true. --Jack Phoenix (Contact) 08:53, June 2, 2010 (UTC)
- I've got to say, even despite me taking a neutral standpoint on this due to my constantly being away from halopedia, I think it Fluffy's defense this did seem very suss. Just that two of them would pop in after a month of inactivity, and both vote for you on the same day (within 3 hours of each other). Furthermore, the Skirt guy made no further edits or contributions which also seems odd (not necessarily a point on its own, but when coinciding with the observations looked as if it had some significance.). I overall though, this was just a large set of coincidences, which seemed irregular due to the fact that the votes could sway the entire HoTM. Think Ashley cleared it up nicely. - This almost got out of hand last month so stop the campaigning, everyone is entitled to their opinion in HotM. --File:Captain Grade One.png Cally99117 08:58, June 2, 2010 (UTC)
- After reading all the comments, I've also decided to clear things up (I know Jack did in a way, but I'll lend some support): Jack_Phoenix and Jedimca0 are not sockpuppets. I know both these users personally, and I assure everyone that there is no fraud voting going on (you guys should visit the IRC sometime if you want further evidence). Perhaps bias as co-workers had something to do with the nomination as well as Jack's work? Maybe so, but if we're taking bias into account, we ought to re-consider nominations we ourselves have done in the past out of friendship; I myself admittedly have nominated some friends out of my personal favour along with their work. That doesn't mean they didn't deserve it. In fact, isn't it better off to know someone personally when you nominate them for an award? Doesn't that make it easier to judge them? Jack nonetheless, as a mediawiki developer has made his own impact of contribs to the wiki. Whether you think he deserves the award is up to each individual, everyone's entitled to their own opinion. Jed's nomination may seem strange and biased to most of you, but don't take it out on him or Jack by assuming they're sockpuppets. Just his opinion, as illogical it sounds. By the way, both of them have been around on wikia longer than most of us here. - File:Major.png Nìcmávr (Tálk) 10:34, June 2, 2010 (UTC)

I agree with everything Nicmavr said, but I was just wondering why was Ashley nominated for the July HotM, while he has not been into editing since April. The rest of the competitors have been editing like maniacs lately, and Ashley's nomination is really unfair for them. They deserve it for all their hard work, despite the fact that they both voted for themselves. - JEA13 [iTalk] 16:53, June 2, 2010 (UTC)
Exactly Man!Sergeant JimMy Stacker 06:23, June 3, 2010 (UTC)
- I nominated him this month because no one nominated him last month. I thought his contributions would be noticed and that he would get nominated. When that did not happen I decided to nominate him this month because, although he's been busy recently, he has done a lot of good for this wiki and I feel he deserves this award no matter when he made his edits. --Jedimca0(Do or Do Not, There is No Try) 17:09, June 2, 2010 (UTC)
- More or less the same reason I nominated you, JEA, for August (seeing you didn't get it in July when you deserved it) ;) - File:Major.png Nìcmávr (Tálk) 17:40, June 2, 2010 (UTC)
- This isn't a competition, it's supposed to be an award to honor those who put forth good contributions. Phoenix may not have been editing but he has alerted me to quite a few vandals. He isn't totally inactive. SmokeSound off! 19:04, June 2, 2010 (UTC)
Don't get me wrong, though, I am not one of those people who attempts to destroy my competition by making false accusations: I just find it extremely unlikely that two users that have been inactive for two months and barely hit the requirements both vote for somebody who hasn't made a mainspace edit for two months. Keep in mind they all went inactive at the same time! I'm still not fully convinced. I suppose it's possible that they are friends, and they made this plan months ago, but other than that: it's extremely unlikely. Look, after two months of inactivity, Jack Phoenix comes back the day of nomination! Am I the only one finding this extremely odd? --Fluffball Gato 22:47, June 2, 2010 (UTC)
- Those who spend time in the Irk knows the real situation. I would suggest talk to them for clarification if you still feel suspicious. - 5əb'7aŋk(7alk) 23:09, June 2, 2010 (UTC)
- They are two different people. The reason Phoenix showed up was because he was alerted to the vote in the IRC. It isn't some vast conspiracy to steal votes or anything else. He thanked Jedimca0 for voting for him, plain and simple. No one's sockpuppeting. SmokeSound off! 00:15, June 3, 2010 (UTC)
- Yeah, I understand now. Hopefully you can understand my suspicions, though. Jack Phoenix hadn't made a mainspace edit in two months, and then these two came out, barely hitting the requirements. Jack Phoenix, I'm sorry... But nobody can deny that, without the background knowledge, this situation seems extremely unlikely. Once again: sorry. I didn't mean to sound so accusatory. We still haven't figured out Roy, though... He has 51 edits, and really shouldn't have known him. My guess is that he was following Jedimca0's lead. One more time: sorry! I won't try to be so skeptical again!--Fluffball Gato 01:35, June 3, 2010 (UTC)
To Smoke: I don't really think that reporting a couple (or whatever the number is) of vandals to the administration is worthy of a HotM. Remember that months ago, when I would report vandals and spam almost everyday to your and Subtank's blacklists, all I would get in return was that lousy argument about me not knowing how difficult handling vandals is. Well anyway, my point is that when you have two amazing contributors in front of you to choose from, no matter how "suspicious" they are, it shows great amount of desrespect and derision to them and their contributions when your vote goes for the guy who has not edited for two months, "just because he reported quite a few vandals". It's completely unfair, and I hope everyone who voted for Ashley could realize it. I mean no disrespect to your vote. - JEA13 [iTalk] 07:40, June 3, 2010 (UTC)
- JEA13, first off, I see three people being nominated here, so that would make three amazing contributors... And sure, Jack's contributions weren't any great big articles and sure he didn't edit for a while... but that does not make his contributions any less compared to the others. He has just been busy with other wiki responsibilities that are not Halopedia, that is not a crime or something. I nominated him this month because I feared his hard work had gone unnoticed. I first started editing here on Halopedia because Jack told me this was a nice and friendly wiki, I didn't think a simple nomination would be such a big problem. Sure, I should have nominated him last month, but I just figured one of you guys would have noticed his contributions and would nominate him. So please, can we drop this and just get back to what this page is all about? Honoring Halopedia's hard working contributors. Thank you. --Jedimca0(Do or Do Not, There is No Try) 09:27, June 3, 2010 (UTC)
- You don't seem to be able to realise that this is called Halopedian of the Month, not Halopedian with the best contributions ever. - JEA13 [iTalk] 10:38, June 3, 2010 (UTC)
- This is just turning into one big set of campaigning, once again. I'm going to take JEA's side on this issue, only because his last point is dead on. I think it would be stupid to attempt to say that Jack's contributions are not substantial, as it is quite the opposite. However, Halopedian of the month is meant to be used to highlight users who are actively helping the wiki and making great contributions. Jack makes great contributions, but the thing is, he just hasn't being doing it as actively as he usually does - other nominees have. Everyone appreciates Jack's efforts, and I think if you really believe that winning Halopedian of the month is the only way to properly have a user's contributions recognized, than you are simply taking this much more seriously than you should.
