Xbox Series X|S is the collective name for Microsoft's 9th generation game console lineup, which succeeds the Xbox One family of consoles. All Halo games and apps available on the Xbox One and Xbox 360 are also available on the console, via backward compatibility.

The Xbox Series X was the first console of the lineup to be officially revealed. It was unveiled at the 2019 Game Awards on December 12, 2019.[1] During development, the Xbox Series X was codenamed Project Scarlett.[2]

- Halo Infinite had its multiplayer released on November 15, 2021 and its Campaign released on December 8, 2021, both on the Xbox Series X|S.

Models
Xbox Series X
The Xbox Series X is a gaming console developed by Microsoft and is part of the ninth generation of video game consoles. It was released on November 10, 2020, at a retail price of $499. The console is designed to deliver a powerful gaming experience with enhanced graphics, faster load times, and improved performance.[3]
In terms of hardware, the Xbox Series X features a custom AMD Zen 2 CPU with 8 cores running at 3.8 GHz, providing significant processing power for demanding games. It is also equipped with a custom AMD RDNA 2 GPU, delivering 12 teraflops of graphical processing power and supporting ray tracing for realistic lighting and reflections. The console has 16 GB of GDDR6 RAM, allowing for smooth multitasking and quick game loading.[3]
One of the standout features of the Xbox Series X is its storage capabilities. It includes a high-speed 1 TB NVMe SSD, which not only significantly reduces loading times but also allows for quick resume and seamless game switching. The console also supports external USB 3.2 hard drives for expanded storage options.[3]
The Xbox Series X supports gaming at up to 4K resolution and 60 frames per second, and it can even reach up to 120 frames per second for certain games. It is compatible with HDR (High Dynamic Range) technology, providing vibrant colors and improved contrast on compatible displays. The console also supports Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos for an immersive audiovisual experience.[3]

All-Digital Xbox Series X
A white Xbox Series X released on October 15, 2024. The console does not feature a disc drive and has the retail price of $449.99. The console features a reworked motherboard and reduced power consumption.[4]
Galaxy Black Special Edition
A 2 TB Xbox Series X released on October 15, 2024, featuring green accents on the shell of the controller and console. The console has a redesigned motherboard and reduced power consumption, and launched at the price of $599.99.[4]
Xbox Series S
The Xbox Series S is a gaming console developed by Microsoft and is part of the ninth generation of video game consoles. It was released on November 10, 2020, alongside the Xbox Series X. It was released with the retail price of $299.99.The Series S is a more affordable, compact, and lower spec’d alternative to the Xbox Series X, while still offering many of the same features.[5]
In terms of hardware, the Xbox Series S is designed to be a lower spec'd and priced version of the Xbox Series X. It features a custom AMD Zen 2 CPU with 8 cores running at 3.6 GHz, providing sufficient processing power for most games. It is also equipped with a custom AMD RDNA 2 GPU, delivering 4 teraflops of graphical processing power.[5]
The console has 10 GB of GDDR6 RAM, which allows for quick loading times. It also includes a custom 512 GB NVMe SSD for storage, also offering faster load times. While the storage capacity is smaller compared to the Series X, the console supports external USB 3 hard drives for expanded storage options.[5] In September 2023, a black model of the Xbox Series S will release with 1 TB of storage.[6]
The Xbox Series S supports gaming at up to 1440p resolution and up to 120 frames per second, providing a smooth and visually appealing gameplay experience. It is compatible with HDR (High Dynamic Range) technology, offering improved color and contrast on compatible displays.[5]
Unlike the Xbox Series X, there is no disc drive. A player must rely on their digital purchases to play games.[5]
Black 1 TB Xbox Series S
A matte black version of the Xbox Series S released on September 1, 2023 and features 1 TB of storage. It is unchanged otherwise. It launched at $349.99.[4]

Halo themed editions
Xbox Series X - Halo Infinite Limited Edition
As with previous generations, the Xbox Series X had a special, Halo-themed limited-edition model. The console came with a bundle that included Halo Infinite, and celebrated the 20th Anniversary of the Halo franchise. The console's shell is mostly black with gold highlights, and has a Halo 20th Anniversary logo on the back. Instead of the usual green, the top vent lights are blue. The controller has the same black and gold coloring. Other than the outside design and vent lights, the console has no internal difference.
