The M247T Medium Machine Gun, formally Machine Gun, Caliber 7.62 mm, M247, is a variant of the M247 machine gun produced by Misriah Armory and used by the United Nations Space Command. It is outfitted on the M808C Scorpion, M820 Scorpion, and M850 Grizzly main battle tanks as an onboard anti-infantry weapon.[2][3][4][5][6]
Overview
Design details
The M247T is a variant of the M247 machine gun.[7][8] The M247T is fitted with a retractable metal shield near the rear of its barrel to protect the user. The M808C Scorpion uses a pintle-mounted M247T with a dedicated operator's compartment near the front of the vehicle.[1][2] The M850 Grizzly uses a coaxially mounted M247T which aligns with the main cannons.[9] Some Grizzlies also feature a pintle-mounted M247T in front of the main turret hatch.[10]
The machine gun is effective at eliminating infantry and protecting battle tanks from personnel threats. The M247T Medium Machine Gun is chambered for the ubiquitous M118 7.62×51 mm FMJ AP cartridge.[1][2]
