Raid on Apex 7, originally codenamed Ring,[2] is a Halo 5: Guardians multiplayer level exclusively for the Warzone gametype. It was first revealed during San Diego Comic-Con 2015 through a Mega Bloks model.[3] According to Microsoft, this level is the spiritual successor of the Halo: Combat Evolved level The Silent Cartographer.

The Warzone Assault variant of this map is Array.

Apex 7 is a composite of high-value research archives found on Installation 03 and Installation 05, and assumed to have existed on Installation 04. It is a simulation crafted by ONI's top War Games team, destined to train both scientific and military personnel who may be deployed on Halo installations. This environment is part of Project BLACKBALL, which includes many other commonly encountered Halo locations, such as Library and Cartographer sites. Spartan-IV operatives are trained in attacking and defending the site, along with eliminating Promethean and Covenant enemies.[1]

In Warzone, the game begins with players dropped off to eliminate Covenant soldiers in the beach nearest to their base. Beside both of the bases lie an armory (West and East, respectively), capture of which will prove crucial in trying to take the Forerunner spire in the center of the island, which is the most easily defensible area. The bases, the surrounding beaches and the central area with the armories are connected by overland routes (some of which offer rock/cliff cover from enemy fire) as well as a system of caves. AI bosses (both Covenant and Forerunner) appear in the caves and routes. Legendary bosses include Tankmaster Rok and Captain Hestro, who appear in the beach, and Warden Eternal, who appears in the central opening in front of the spire. The first team to score 1,000 Victory Points win the game. An alternative way to win is to capture all three bases (West Armory, East Armory, Spire), in order to have access to the enemy team's base and destroy their core.[4]

On this map in Warzone, the Marines on the Beaches at the start of the game can enter vehicles. These are the only Marines in the whole game that have this ability.[5]

  1. ^ Canonically, the Elites and Grunts are not the Hunter Elders' minions. Their role is to guard the Spire.
