"I wanna hear what they're saying!"
— Berger

Private First Class Berger[1] was an enlisted member of the UNSC who participated in the Human-Covenant War.[2][3] He was last seen aboard the destroyer UNSC Kronstadt. Berger greatly admired the Orbital Drop Shock Troopers, a large Special Operations organization of the Marine Corps.

Biography

Aboard DD-933

During his stay aboard the Kronstadt, he tried to sit near a team of these operators in the ship's mess hall, attempting to eavesdrop on their conversation, before being pulled away by a fellow Trooper. Being an admirer of the ODSTs, he also held an evident disregard for the SPARTAN-II program, whom the ODSTs shared a bitter rivalry with.

After the same team arrived back from a mission on Heian, he sat by them and gave them some apples. He commented on SPARTAN Cal-141's lack of combat skills down on the planet, leading to her death. While they previously despised the SPARTAN program, these Helljumpers were angered at the soldier's disrespect for Cal's death and naturally scolded Berger for what he said and threw the apples at him.

Trivia

  • Berger's rank and branch have changed throughout various sources. Berger was originally given the rank of SPC, or Specialist, by Frank O'Connor in a bost on halo.bungie.org.[3] Specialist is a role only within the UNSC Army. The Halo official Twitter account later reported his rank as Private, First Class.[1] In addition, concept art of Berger posted on Halo Waypoint gave him the title of Marine, calling Berger's true branch into question.
  • Berger was voiced by George Manley.[4]
