The UNSC Coral Sea is a UNSC Navy stealth corvette assigned to the Home Fleet in 2552.[3]
History
In October 2552, Coral Sea saw action at the Battle of Mombasa. The Coral Sea, the UNSC Dusk, UNSC Paris, and UNSC Redoubtable were the only ships close enough to pursue the UNSC In Amber Clad and the Prophet of Regret's CAS-class assault carrier, Solemn Penance, into slipspace. Coral Sea quickly outran the Dusk during the chase, losing contact with the prowler.[3]
Eventually, Coral Sea arrived at Installation 05 in the Coelest system. To avoid being detected by the Covenant, the corvette hid close to Delta Halo's surface and spent a majority of its time scanning the installation. Several communication relays across Installation 05's surface were discovered by the corvette's crew. At some point, Coral Sea encountered a Covenant infantry detachment attempting to tap into one of Delta Halo's critical power conduits. The information recollected by the Coral Sea's crew was used in the post-war era to reconstruct Delta Halo locations for research and War Games simulations for Spartan-IV supersolders.[4]
Weeks after the Battle of Installation 05 and the subsequent Fall of High Charity, Coral Sea picked up the dying San'Shyuum Alo Sebukah from a damaged skiff orbiting Substance and transferred him to the secret Office of Naval Intelligence detention center, Midnight Facility.[5]
Trivia
- The Coral Sea is likely named in reference to the Battle of the Coral Sea, a World War II naval battle in May 1942, in which the American navy was able to halt and completely deter Japan's attempt to invade Australia from New Guinea.
- The Coral Sea was initially mistakenly referred to as a frigate on Halo Waypoint's Universe article for Installation 05. Since then, the error was fixed.
