Halopedia:Acronyms

For the sake of brevity, Halopedia makes use of acronyms in its wikitext in a number of templates and in filenames. This helps to make it quicker to edit pages without significantly impacting readability of the wikitext, and also helps with organisation in some cases.
Usage
File names
When uploading files, their filenames should always be prefixed with one of these acronyms, usually relating to the source of the image. For instance, if you were uploading an image taken in Halo 5: Guardians, you would prefix its filename with "H5G". This helps with organisation, and also makes it easier to search for images - if you know that you're looking for an image from a particular piece of media, you can search for it using its prefix.
Additionally, images intended for official use on the wiki - for instance logos - will be prefixed with the acronym "HP", meaning Halopedia. This acronym is reserved for use by Halopedia, and other pieces of media sharing the acronym, for instance Halo: Primordium, are assigned different ones.
Templates
A number of templates support passing acronyms as arguments, including a number of reference templates.
Furthermore, when writing templates, there exist some templates to simplify interacting with acronyms:
- Template:Acronym/Exists - Returns "yes" if an acronym exists, and blank otherwise. It can be used in contexts such as
{{#if:{{Acronym/Exists|...}}|...|...}}to do one thing if the acronym exists and another otherwise. - Template:Acronym/PageName - Returns the name of the article associated with a given acronym.
- Template:Acronym/LongName - Returns the full version of the name of the topic associated with a given acronym, suitable for use in lists.
- Template:Acronym/ShortName - Returns a shorter version of the name of the topic, suitable for use in the bodies of paragraphs in articles.
- Template:Acronym/ShortestName - Returns the shortest possible version of the name.
- Template:Acronym/LongLink - Creates a link to the topic's page, with the long version of the name.
- Template:Acronym/ShortLink - Creates a link to the topic's page, with the short version of the name.
- Template:Acronym/ShortestLink - Creates a link to the topic's page, with the shortest version of the name.
Acronyms

These acronyms are reserved for use by Halopedia itself, and will never be used for a piece of Halo media, even if one exists with the same initials.
