Peter Jackson (born October 31, 1961) is a New Zealand-born filmmaker best known as the director of The Lord of the Rings trilogy, which he, along with his long time partner, Fran Walsh, and Philippa Boyens adapted from the novels by J.R.R. Tolkien.

As producer for the Halo film

In 2008, Peter Jackson was announced to be the executive producer for the Halo film. He was also initially the director for the film, though he decided to give the directing role to Neill Blomkamp due to his other commitments. In addition to the film production, Jackson formed Wingnut Interactive to develop and produce Halo: Chronicles. When plans for the film fell through, Jackson and Neill Blomkamp went on and together produced District 9.
