Shadow Gun
Does anyone know if it is possible to use the shadow gun while the driver is still alive? I've tried it and it hasn't yet worked. --Belugaperson 13:27, 27 August 2006 (UTC)
Yes, during co-op my friend was able to use it while it was still driving. Extremley difficult to get that close though, especially in legendary.
And how exactly does one do this? I tried killing the gunner and jumping on, but I just bounced off... --Kura 13:06, 7 October 2006 (UTC)
Well I believe we had hit the gunner with a rocket and my friend was able to land on the top of the shadow and move with it I think during one of the turns...in any case, you have to have more air because the slant on the shadows back does bounce off you off when trying to jump to it while its moving. If you get real close even from the side while not on its back I believe you can just hit x and get in...but I also could be dreaming all this up...95% sure...It's been a while so I think I may go try and re-create the situation, and get back to you--Darnlittlegrunt 19:33, 7 October 2006 (UTC)
Well me and my friend were able to block the shadows up and as they turned sideways, we each were able to get to the gunner but there was no option to board them while the driver below was still alive...Hah now I can't remember if we tried with the gunner dead...I think we did...--Darnlittlegrunt 17:18, 16 October 2006 (UTC)
- I was able to man the turret once...although on EASY. =D I just hopped on while it was moving a bit slow, assassinated the gunner elite with a back hit, and then manned the turret. damn fun. =D Cheers, 49 Proximal Secant[oracle]File:H3 Monitor.PNG 15:02, 23 December 2006 (UTC)
- I can confirm at least for the Xbox console version that no option to man the turret appears after getting on a moving Shadow and meleeing the Elite out of the gunner seat. I had spent around two hours just trying to get aboard a Shadow using everything from a Warthog to a Ghost and even using the hidden Energy Sword in Outskirts to lunge at the Elite gunner, finally managing with the Sword to slice the gunner out of his seat and land on top of the Shadow. Imagine my surprise when I eagerly climbed up to the gunner's seat in anticipation of manning the turret against the other Shadows and finding out in shocked disbelief that the option to man the turret only appears when the driver is killed. Now I'm sore with myself for even trying in the first place, but at least I now know that you can't man the Shadow's turret when the driver is still alive. I'm going to remove the section of this article that claims you can man the turret while the driver is still alive now that I know that you can't. --67.166.207.210 01:33, September 11, 2009 (UTC)
You know what pisses me off!!
You cant drive this thing!!--User:JohnSpartan117 [1] 07:35, 23 December 2006 (UTC)
- hmm. concur. cheers, 49 Proximal Secant[oracle]File:H3 Monitor.PNG 15:01, 23 December 2006 (UTC)
I read that if you edit the map file you can get into the shadow, but I haven't found out how yet, anyone know about this?? user: Starwarsguy9875
- Assuming youre a modder. Just open up outskirts in CH2R, and uncheck the "disable vehicle" checkmark in the box. And that should be it, as MasterChief already has Driver Seat animations for it by Bungie.--Dojorkan 01:49, 19 April 2007 (UTC)
I found a mod that when you press resume on outskirts you are drivn a shadow with grunt allies...................don't ask.user:the evil O,malley
- What pisses me off is that when I hop on, this vehicle is destroyed, and I am left with no shields! Emosworld 05:52, 18 July 2007 (UTC)
Rumored?
In the halo 3 vehicles section it says that this thing is rumored but in the shadow article says that there was a code discovered in the halo 3 beta that says it is usable so what is it? is it only a rumor or has it been confirmed to be used in halo 3?
The right counterpart
If the Shadow will make it in Halo Wars, I think it will probably be the counterpart to the UNSC Cougar, which is also an APC.. In the "See Also" section there's a link to the Elephant, but I think its closest counterpart is the Scarab, not the Shadow User:Spirit of Fire 01/26/08
how do i mod halo 2 vista to drive this thing???
how do i mod halo 2 vista to drive it?? it annoy me
Wrong Counterpart
Why is it listed that the Elephant is the equivlant to the Shadow? The Elephant is a mobile base, while the Shadow is a light troop transport.
This being said, it is more similar to the Cougar or the Falcon. Missing Mandible 23:27, July 4, 2010 (UTC)
how come there has never been a sighting of a VULTURE in any of the other games???????
No more Shadow?
Sad that this thing hasn't reappeared since Halo 2. They were so much fun to blow up in-game. What does anyone suppose became of these vehicles? Same with the Spectre.262VigilantGuardian (talk) 19:05, 27 February 2014 (EST)
- Well given how they really aren't that useful asides from moving cargo and troops I would say the Covenant rarely use them. Though when they do it's most often on more remote colonies. Same goes for the Spectre, Prowler, Revenant, and V1 Scarab. I have a hunch though the Locust is going to make a strong comeback.Sith-venator Wavingstrider (Commlink) 23:59, 27 February 2014 (EST)
The Shadow may have limited use in their arsenal, especially with heavy platforms like the Phantom and Lich serving the function better now as massive troop transports, but the Spectre and Revenant still have practical use, right? The Revenant was used heavily on Reach, so I'm assuming that's used for large-scale engagements. The Spectre is the in-universe answer to the Warthog, not sure why that sees so little use. They offer more firepower than the one-seat Ghost.
I hope so. How about the Vampire too? That too was from Halo Wars like the Locust was.262VigilantGuardian (talk) 01:11, 28 February 2014 (EST)
Remember, absence of evidence is not evidence of absence. For all we know, the Covenant just didn't bring any with them to Requiem. I got the impression, based on how they were used in Halo 2, that they were designed for urban environments, using human-build roads for ease of mobility. Not something at a premium on a Forerunner Shield World.
And yes, I for one would love to see more Halo Wars materiel in a main-series Halo game. Especially the Locust or Grizzly. -- Qura 'Morhek The Autocrat of Morheka 02:09, 28 February 2014 (EST)
That could be, and I would certainly like to see more of those in urban combat if the opportunity ever arose. That and some of the other forgotten vehicles of the series. I mean I was earlier under the impression that the Spirit would be done away with completely after the Phantom became the more common sight in the games. And actually the Grizzly and the Wolverine have both resurfaced in Spartan Assault, from what I have read. I for one would like to see more of the Grizzly in particular. And the Vulture apparently is still used in the postwar era as well. It's good to see the vehicles from Halo Wars coming back.262VigilantGuardian (talk) 02:47, 28 February 2014 (EST)
Whoa wait, the Shadow apparently appears in Halo: Escalation? That's a new release, where in the story were Shadows being used?262VigilantGuardian (talk) 19:28, 28 February 2014 (EST)
Shadow or Tug
I spoke with 343 Industries today to clarify the Shadow's apparent appearance in Escalation #3. It is not intended to be the Shadow ground transport, but a Covenant Tug that has a resemblance to the T-29 transport. It's size is not identical to the Shadow. So the Escalation tug should be on its own page and not bundled with the Shadow here. Do with this information what you will. - ScaleMaster117 (talk) 17:05, 3 March 2014 (EST)
Great! Another instance of them recycling an existing model to stand in for something totally different. I'm really getting sick and tired of that.262VigilantGuardian (talk) 21:27, 3 March 2014 (EST)
- There was already a description of a Covenant tug in First Strike that would've looked like a couple of fused together Spirit dropships. Would have been better for them to have used that. We'd see something visualized that we've known about a long while. They need some help in that department, granted. They are hiring for someone to add to that department now hopefully to help with this kind of thing. -ScaleMaster117 (talk) 22:05, 3 March 2014 (EST)
- We already have page for the Covenant tug from First Strike. We could call Escalation's Shadow facsimile the "Covenant cargo tug", given that it's named as such in the comic. --Jugus (Talk | Contribs) 23:37, 3 March 2014 (EST)
Yeah let's recap for a second:
CCS-class Battlecruiser recycled for the CRS-class Light "Cruiser". CAS-class Assault Carrier recycled for the CSO-class Supercarrier. Halcyon-class recycled for the Autumn-class. Type-29 Shadow recycled for a Tug. Stalwart-class (Arguably) recycled for the Paris and Charon-classes (Though granted, we didn't know the names of any of these frigate subtypes until after Halo: Reach). The design for the stealth ship in "The Package" is recycled as a Prowler in-game when it was explicitly mentioned that the stealth ship was NOT a prowler.
This constant recycling of known vehicle designs for the sake of entirely new and different vehicles and vessels is seriously becoming repetitive. Are you sure that they're hiring someone to deal with this sort of thing?262VigilantGuardian (talk) 22:13, 3 March 2014 (EST)
- It's bizarre because you'd think that the many artists in their employ would have a field day designing all these ships and other items we've never seen before. Instead they just stick to redoing existing assets, like the Dawn, the Covenant species, the Chief's armor, and so on. --Jugus (Talk | Contribs) 23:37, 3 March 2014 (EST)
- Hey you also forgot the RCS-class armored cruiser resembling the CCS-class :) . Also to add on to the discussion, I noticed that when they added some new assets they didn't even have a classification for them.--Killamint [Comm|Files] 06:27, 4 March 2014 (EST)
- I dislike all the reuse as well. As far as the cruiser type similarities, it can be justified under "imitative, not innovative" but yeah...too much repetition. To the last point, I'm fairly far along updating my HBO scale charts to include Halo 4 and some more Reach objects, and those ships will be included. They were originally in the Halo 4 Visual Guide, but their low rez models weren't suited to the picture quality in the rest of the book so they were cut and Infinity and Forward Unto Dawn got 2 pages each in their place. I may be the only non-343i employee to know their sizes, types, and class designations. :P I already know I can include them on my scale chart, but I'll check in with them to see if they're keeping the names or if I'll have to make them generic in case they don't want to commit to those at this time. -ScaleMaster117 (talk) 08:03, 4 March 2014 (EST)
- I'll need to clarify it with 343i. It's not my info to reveal. Things I figured out I can reveal like the calculation determining the diameter of Requiem or that I named one of the Prowler classes or that I named the ship and class in Adrift or that I slipped my multiplayer armor on the book's Recon page. They may or may not let me say anything about the ships. The file names don't reveal anything. -ScaleMaster117 (talk) 11:43, 4 March 2014 (EST)
- Seriously, why have they not just hired you yet? :P -- Qura 'Morhek The Autocrat of Morheka 16:19, 4 March 2014 (EST)
Not to be fussy but could you provide some kind of documentation on this? Transcript perhaps?— subtank 12:22, 6 March 2014 (EST)
