Chyler Silva

Template:Character Infobox Chyler Silva was an officer cadet of the UNSC Defense Force. She attended Corbulo Academy of Military Science during the early years of the Human-Covenant War as part of the class of 2529.

Biography

Early life and education

She grew up on Cygnus, a colony world where violence between insurrectionists and UNSC supporters was a common occurrence, and both of her parents died in battle against rebels. A member of Hastati Squad under April Orenski, her performance in training exercises was typically exemplary. Although most other members of Hastati Squad berated Thomas Lasky for his poor performance in combat exercises and not taking his training seriously, Silva continuously attempted to encourage him to become a better soldier. Having experienced the harsh reality of the Insurrection firsthand, she was not convinced by Lasky's pacifism, maintaining that military action by the UNSC was the only way to end the war. Silva's efforts eventually paid off, with Lasky volunteering to lead the squad during a capture the flag exercise and devising an ingenious tactical maneuver which allowed Hastati Squad to catch the opposing team completely by surprise.

Battle of Circinius IV

As the Battle of Circinius IV started, Hastati Squad was to be evacuated via the Academy's space elevator. However, after the Covenant's destruction of the tether, the squad retreated to the dormitory hiding in Lasky's room. They heard screaming outside and saw a Sangheili Zealot killing a cadet. They decided they had to leave, cadet Junjie Chen volunteered to take point he waited until the elite went into another room to run. After a short distance Chen stopped, the Sangheili then deactivated his active camouflage revealing Chen to be impaled on his energy sword.

The rest of the squad then ran for the armory shutting the door behind them. While Lasky sent a distress signal, the rest of the squad attempted to open the weapons locker, eventually cadet Walter Vickers attempted to break it open. The Sangheili started to break down the door causing the squad to hide. Vickers became separated hiding on the other side of the room. As the Sangheili neared the rest of the squad's position Vickers, in order to give the squad a chance to escape, revealed his location to the Sangheili, and was quickly cut down by its energy sword. The Sangheili then turned his attention back to the squad, slowly walking toward them until Master Chief Petty Officer John-117 snuck up behind it and stabbed it in the neck. John, who had arrived with SPARTAN-II Blue Team to assist in the defense of Circinius IV, revealed that the surviving members of Hastati Squad were among the few surviving humans left on the entire planet.

The SPARTAN went ahead to investigate escape routes. While waiting in a hallway for the Master Chief to return, Silva began to break down under the stress of combat. When the Master Chief asked who in the squad was the best marksman, Lasky recommended Silva. As they went outside the squad saw their fellow cadets and soldiers dead all around them. The Master Chief ordered Silva and Orenski to cover Lasky as he commandeered a Warthog to allow them escape. During the engagement, Silva ran out of ammunition and had to make use of a discarded Covenant Type-51 Carbine.
