The University of Calcutta, also known as Calcutta University, is a public university located in the city of Kolkata (previously Calcutta), India, founded on January 24, 1857. It was the first modern university on the Indian subcontinent.

After the Battle of Earth, the Office of Naval Intelligence used this university along with the University of Edinburgh to conduct research on various Forerunner artifacts.
