If you look closely at the officer's unit patch, you will see that the number is actually 17 (the 1 resembles a 7 but doesn't have a dash through it like the 7 does). This would make the officer part of the "17th Marine Regiment", which was already in Mombasa before the 405th showed up. Maybe the 17th is part of the 405th and wasn't stationed with the rest of the unit, I don't know. But that officer may not be part of the 405th, and the 77th might not exist. I think the marine who told the media what to show and not to show, and the marine who rounded able-bodied males to fight are two different charachters...If you look closely at the officer's unit patch IN THE MEDIA CENTRE you will see the number 101, maybe he's part of another unit.
