The latest in the portable micro-missile launcher technology. By toggling to the zoom aim mode, the MLRS-2 Hydra can lock-on to vehicles and infantry targets, allowing missiles to home-in. When hip fired, Hydra munitions are unguided, but feature proximity air-burst fusing.[2]

The Multiple Launch Rocket System-2 Hydra Gyroc Launcher (MLRS-2 Hydra) is a weapon in the Hydra line of gyroc missile launchers built by Chalybs Defense Solutions and employed by the United Nations Space Command.[1] The weapon succeeds the previous MLRS-1 model.

OverviewEdit

Design detailsEdit

As with its predecessor, the MLRS-1, the MLRS-2 Hydra is a semi-automatic missile launcher equipped by infantry forces for use against other infantry and vehicles. The weapon is arranged in a manner similar to a conventional rifle, albeit with a more angular body than its predecessor. The fore of the weapon contains a revolving cylinder which stocks six 9X-G High Explosive, Air Bursting (HEAB) gyroscopically-stabilised missiles. These missiles can be individually-fired by the operator with a semi-automatic fire mode in either dumb-fire or locked-on to enemies. When locking onto enemies, the weapon's integrated semi-automatic tracking and targeting systems allow the operator to target enemy infantry or individual parts of vehicles for the missiles to home in on.[1]

Warnings on the body of the MLRS-2 Hydra recommend using only approved UNSC munitions.[3]

HistoryEdit

MLRS-2 Hydra units are either tested or manufactured at the Seattle Complex, United Republic of North America.[3] Succeeding the MLRS-1 model, the MLRS-2 was in use by UNSC forces by 2559. In this time, it was employed during the Battle for Zeta Halo.[4] While fighting the Master Chief, the Jiralhanae Warlord Tremonius used a Hydra against the Spartan.[5]

VariantsEdit

  • Pursuit Hydra: The Pursuit Hydra locks onto targets more quickly and fires projectiles at greater velocities, making it more effective at longer ranges.[6]

In-game informationEdit
