Algolis is a former human colony planet in the Algol system.[1] It is known to possess at least two moons.[2] The planet housed a relatively small civilian population and was home to some of the Office of Naval Intelligence's research and development projects for prototype weapons, including the HRUNTING/YGGDRASIL Mark I ADS.[3]
OverviewEdit
Astronomical featuresEdit
Algolis is located in the Algol (Beta Persei) system. Algolis has two moons.[2]
Topography and ecologyEdit
The surface of Algolis features large landmasses with seas interspersed throughout.[4] Some of these landmasses are known to have arid, rocky terrain and sparse, low-growing shrubbery.[5][4][6] Some landmasses show large swathes of greenery from orbit.[4]

HistoryEdit
Rise of humanityEdit
Human colonization efforts on Algolis began in 2475.[1]
Human-Covenant warEdit
The Office of Naval Intelligence's Section Three had facilities on the planet, to which several SPARTAN-II augmentation chemical precursors were sent without Dr. Catherine Halsey's consent, likely in order to be researched for Project CHRYSANTHEMUM.[7]
Algolis InvasionEdit
- Main article: Algolis Invasion
The colony was attacked by the Covenant in 2549,[1] some time prior to March 28.[Note 1] During the battle, the planet's civilians were evacuated while Marines from the UNSC Marine Corps of Engineers made a last stand against Covenant forces. The UNSC destroyer UNSC The Heart of Midlothian was en route to the planet to secure a powered armor before the facility was attacked. The planet's survivors escaped in transport ships to a UNSC frigate in orbit that carried them to safety.[8][4] The battle also resulted in the formation of the Banished as well.[9] Overall, it's unknown what happened to the colony following the battle,[3] though it evidently went un-glassed by the Covenant.[1]
