Template:Covenant Species Infobox The Lekgolo[1] (Latin Ophis congregatio[2]) are a species of small colonial worm like creatures that can join together to form purpose specific assemblages called Mgalekgolo. They are commonly referred to by Humans as Hunters. The cores of the scarabs are also seemingly held together by Lekgolo worms.
Trivia
- "Lekgolo" is Tswana for "one hundred", probably a reference to their hive-like physiology.
- Lekgolo blood smells like burnt plastic.[3]
- Claims that Lekgolo worms have been seen the vulnerable area of Scarabs have given rise to speculation that Lekgolo operate the heavy weapons platforms for the Covenant, though this has yet to be proven. If Lekgolo worms actually do happen to be in Scarab cores, they might function as a form of biological intelligence instead of an artificial intelligence. (B.I. compared to A.I.)
- Ophis means snake. Congregatio means assembly, society, union. Translated it means "assembly of snakes", no doubt alluding to their physical structure.
- In a Bungie Weekly Update, Frank O'Connor said: "Hunter society is complex and we have seen but the tiniest fraction of it. There are some fundamental facts about Hunter biology that mean the combat type is just the tip of the iceberg" [4]. This means, or at least implies, that there are other kinds of Hunters that simply have yet to be seen.
- Spartan William-043 killed a Hunter by ripping out the worms in its body. Hinting that Hunters can be killed if too many worms are displaced.
