Capital ships are generally Covenant spacecraft used to lead battles and command other ships, they are extremly powerful and feature many plasma turrets along with the deadly energy projector. The energy projector is capable of slicing straight through any UNSC ship but it is noted that most large covenant ships can withstand its force although this takes great strain on the shields of the ship.
Capital ships are not to confused with flagships which do not have to neccesarily be the biggest or best ships in a fleet. While capital ships have very powerful shields it is quoted by Seargant Jhonson, that the Super MAC stations over earth are capable of putting a projectile "straight through a covenant capital ship".
