Halogen was a complete conversion mod of Command and Conquer: Generals being created by Slipstream Productions in an attempt to create a Real-Time Strategy version of Halo. Microsoft had given the cease and desist order to Slipstream Productions, and has since been cancelled. Many fans were disappointed, especially after learning the progress was as far as a Beta.
Asylum
After Halogen was shut down, with less than 20% of work remaining, rather than abandon the work, Slipstream Productions has decided to modify some of the content in Halogen to fit a new original sci-fi universe "Asylum" created by one of their own. Work has already begun, and it is being based on Command & Conquer 3's SAGE engine.

Halogen and Halo Wars
Rumor has it that Halo Wars was directly produced because of fans' extremely positive reactions to Halogen and the stopping of the project was very disappointing to most avid fans. Halo Wars was announced shortly after Halogen was canceled, it is speculated that Halo Wars will develop the momentum of anticipation Halogen carried. Halogen was shut down due to the fact of Halo Wars being made. In the email to SSP from Microsoft, they warned that a similar game would be revealed at X06 and that this was the explaination as to why they shut the modification down.
Asylum
Asylum is the version of the game after it was shut down by Microsoft. Instead of taking place within the Halo universe, it creates a completely new and original science fiction universe.
